I've been on the Zone diet for a few weeks now. So far I *feel* absolutely Amazing. Following the regular food pyramid leaves me drained, slightly depressed, and after enough time feeling quite sickly. None of that with this so far, I really think I am just the type of person that needs more protein and fat and low-GI carbs to feel good and lose fat. I've always intuitively known this.
However I'm having a small problem. In spite of this problem I'm still losing weight and at a fairly good pace, but for the purposes of self-discipline I'd like to eliminate it altogether. My problem is that I wake up in the middle of the night hungry. I did well last night, coming to my senses and making sure my late night cheat was in line with guidelines of my diet, but none the less like clockwork I woke up. Now here is the thing. I don't feel any of the normal symptoms of having not ate enough calories. I don't feel tired at any point in the day and I don't actually feel hungry at all during the day. But as soon as I go to sleep I am almost guaranteed to wake up hungry at some point. I don't go to bed hungry at all.
Personally I think there are several factors, one being that late night was often a pig out time for me when I wasn't controlling my food intake. Also I think I was used to going to bed with a full stomach. But what can I do about it? If I can catch myself maybe I can eat a pickle and have some diet soda if I'm just going to wake up anyway, but in the haze that is the half-awake/asleep state of mind it's very hard to remember to do this.
