Alright...I know im not "cut" ...yet ppl but I highly educate myself on a daily basis on health. You all need to eat 6 small meals a day if you feel like your diet isn't working. When you stall in weight loss you need to change this...you need to change your workout program...like adding heavier weights or less reps and heavier weight or less weight and more reps. You also need to rotate you calorie intake change it from 1,700 one day to 1,900 to 1,800....trick that metabolism in to fat burnage. You can all do it if you educate your self. going from 3 bif meals a day to 6 smaller one's will boost your mood and metabolism alone.

Where's your proof?

There's little scientific evidence that says 6 meals are better than 3...

I did have proof but I guess weight-loss.fitness wont let me post the link. It's considered spam. I guess some proof could be if your not losing weight on 3 meals per day and you switch to 6 small one's through the day..there you go. Sorry im so limited on what I can post here but im full of loads of proof. As you lose weight you'll realize you have to experiment on yourself to see what happens.

That's a grand entrance.

Answer me this.

What's so magic about 6 meals per day?

Assuming same net calories and nutrient-density in two meal plans, but one is in 3 meals and the other is in 6..... what's the difference? Where's the magic?

Both are hypocaloric.

And if your 'proof' is considered spam, then it isn't proof. Proof would be something like a peer-reviewed study. I could refute your claim with science and empirical evidence, but what's the point. It's been done more times than I can count around here. Besides, the burden of proof is on you. On it bears repeating.... if said proof is some spammish link than that's not proof in the eyes of the members here. Believe it or not, but it's an educated bunch around here.

There are some advantages to eating several small meals a day for some people.

1. It may help you better control your hunger and appetite.
2. It may be kinder on your digestive system.
3. You can have many types of food to keep your daily intake exciting.

And many others I'm sure. But for weight loss? If you consume the same amount of calories in 2 meals or 6 meals, what difference does it make? You're still intaking the same amount of energy. And I'm yet to see convincing evidence for the so called metabolism boost.

Exactly.

I find most do better in terms of consistency and adherance with more frequent feedings than less.

But certainly not all.

And that's not really the point...... the fact that the OP said you must eat 6 meals per day to lose weight is just silly.

See Steve being a dick and trying to be a know-it-all again... using your peer reviewed studies and hard information to act like you know what you're talking about is just down right obnoxious. [/sarcasim]

And to think, I was holding back on how I really felt, lol.

I just don't like preachers. Especially when said preaching sucks.

I'm sure many reading this is thinking, "well that's all Steve does, is preach."

Mind you.... I didn't come here stating opinion as fact. I simply came here and introduced myself.

I hear you. Actually I subscribe to the more meals in a day methodology. However, that being said, I do it for the hunger control not for the metabolism "spike".

I do know it is helpful to eat at certain times (i.e. good source of protein after weight training) but I don't think this poster was trying to refer to that.

As do I in most instances. But that's me personally. There's not a one-shoe-fits-all approach that will work for everyone. And that's why I have beef with people spewing shit like this day in and day out. You've got a lot of people around here who are just learning and they read something like this and think they're locked into eating 6 meals per day or they won't lose weight. That's where I'm coming from.

I'm not a fan of the 6 meals a day because it just doesn't work for me and my lifestyle... doesnt make my approach wrong or ineffective...

Exactly my point and why I got my knickers in a twist from the get go

I've done both (well 5 meals I couldn't get down 6) and they both work fine. Depends on what I'm eating. When you stuff yourself full of roughage, you really don't need to eat 6 times a day, there is no room left. :)

Sorry

You know im really sorry about this guy's. I do realize a lot on people are learning on this board. It doesn't help to say "oh this is the one and only way"...I suppose im just really excited for how far ive personally come since having a my son 5 month's ago and how far I could go. I've seen some amazing results with Body For Life on another board im a part of (hence where the skinny fat post stems from) and it's really motivating. So what ive learned from the other board i've tryed to bring here because I know it works. Some of the most amazing progress pictures ive ever seen! But please except my apologize...yes im learning just like you.

Wow, that's downright impressive.

I expected an explosive refute about how mean we all were. I appreciate your honesty.

I've met a good number of people who have had success with B4L. However, all diets are based on a few core principles. Each diet simply packages them a bit different.

An important thing to realize is while one package might be right for one person, it could be completely wrong for the next.

Check out the before and afters here, there are some pretty amazing ones.

I have done BFL...3 times in fact. Yes the 6 meals a day is the way it works, but most people use the Myoplex shakes/bars as a meal replacement, very few people eat a 'real' meal in between the 3 major ones.

I've had good results with BFL, didn't keep it up, so I didn't keep it off. BFL is also a very hard program to make a lifestyle change.

I hear that it isn't practical compared to say moderation and common sense in meal preparation. For instance, I prepare meals ahead of time but this program has little to no room for error and can be time consuming in its preps, any truth to that?

When i lost weight in the past i found that i was only successful when eating one meal a day that was higher in calories. I find that eating several smaller meals a day only serves to keep me hungry all the time. I try to eat food that doesnt excite me. If i eat several meals aday to try and keep it exciting, i only find myself getting excited about eating again. Not a good thing when loosing weight.

I think that it only goes to show that everyone is different and that you need to learn how your body responds to different situations.

Yep. I started quite a bit lighter than you are, and still did better on 2 meals a day at the very beginning. Oddly enough, as I've gotten lighter, I've transitioned to more, smaller meals. This last week I've had between 5 and 7 small meals every day.

60 pounds ago, eating breakfast would pretty much guarantee I'd run out of calories by dinnertime, with nothing left for evening snacking, and I'd often not eat anything until 1pmish. Now, I'm usually on my 3rd meal by 2pm.

For me, eating lots of small meals correlates with being skinnier, but the causality runs in the opposite direction that most people assume.
