Yes I 1-rep maxed 130!

As said in the title, this is awesome. my last 1 rep max was 125. I do a 1rep max on my bench every month. Is 5 pounds good progress?

5'9 height.
164 pounds.

About average for a month.

I've been lifting since December. My last biggest gain was from 100-120 in 6 weeks. Its good to do 130.

I had a friend who once could bench 150 3 times but he tore his pectoral in a lacrosse game and now he can only bench 100 4 times. Ouch.

I had huge improvements in the beginning, even though i was overtraining. Now im working the chest properly and its a lot slower, only cause i reached a plateau though. I think around 5-10 pounds a month is pretty decent, nice job.

Yeah pretty good. I've always thought that if you can max bench your own bodyweight than you're doing pretty well but there's people around here doing alot more than that.

I'm 150 lbs and I maxed out at 185 about a month ago after a chest workout, so I figure it's got to be up to at least 190, especially if I don't do a workout right before. Dumbells I can get 90s up.

My lifetime BP Max was 254lbs. or about 150% of my bodyweight. Right now I have completed 221lbs. but hope to push that up to 232 about the first. I seriously doubt I will ever see 254 again but you never know.

jmanjman47 - You are doing great. 130 is a lot more than I could have done at 15. Lord only knows how strong you may be by 20.

Yea, for your age I think that's pretty darn good. I'm about the same weight but 2 inches taller and I'm 19. I think age does make a difference, because 135 lbs is what I bench right now, doing 10 reps. But I work out quite often. I'll work things separately. I'll work my pecs, triceps, and shoulders. Honestly, a lot of bench press is all in the shoulders. Once the shoulders and pecs get the weight up, the triceps usually got the rest no problem. So if you isolate your shoulder and pec workouts some more, you might see even more improvement. Good luck man, and keep up the good work! You're gonna be a big man someday. ;)

Keep working on it POJO. When I started weightlifting in December I could only max 100 Pounds. Now I'm doing 130. I love working out, It builds self confidence when you see improvement.

I think I'm gonna switch up my routine now. I read this in a Sparq magazine:

If you wanna be slow, train slow.If you wanna be fast, train fast. Football is a "explosive sport" so you should explode in your exercises. You should super-set core lifts (12 reps, 3 sets) into a plyometric exercise. (plyometrics are exploding movements in weight lifting, but in a controlled speed of course). I dont know what do you all think of this.

What do you all think of this?
I could take 85% of my 1 rep max and do a 5X5 program with 1 minute 30 second rest between sets. I will do the last set till failure, if I get past 5 reps then I'll add 5 pounds to the bench. Will this work.

i think my max is like 190-200 and i benched 135lbs 20 times.. idk if thats good for 15 years old 165lbs

That is very good for your age. Keep it going. Infact, your benching alot more then others at your age and weight.

thanks jmanjman47, I have a question though, is it better to do say, 6 reps of 3 sets on 80lbs than 10 reps of 3 sets on 55lbs?

Take your 1 rep max and multiply it by .70. Then you will get 70% of your 1 rep max. Do 3 sets of 10 and no more. On you third set lift until failure. If you can do more then 10 then add 5 pounds the next week. Or if your more into strength you could do a 5X5 program. Take 85% of your 1 rep max and do 5 sets of 5 reps with that weight. If you get more then 5 reps on the last set then increase the weight by 5 pounds the next week.
