Wrist/Ankle Weights

I recently bought two sets of wrist/ankle weights (Gold's Gym brand - 2.5kg on each of the four weights, adjustable at 0.5kg increments. 2.5kg is roughly 5 pounds). I've only had them a couple of days, and today i went for the longest walk i can remember, along the beach. An hour and a half, i think i was walking, 2.5 on each limb. Needless to say i now ache all over, in that kind of post-workout way. (I've only recently started excercising properly and eating properly). I'm just wondering, is this a good way to get rid of the fat on my abdomen? I don't want to walk for an hour and a half on sand every day for nothing, and I'm sick of being called pudgy :)

Cheers.

I don't think ankle weights are a good idea - they put extra stress on your joints that is totally unnecessary. Just plain old walking is good enough.

I totally agree with spock on this one! Too much pressure on the joints and will lead to injury!! Why dont you try slow joggin' it will be beneficial alone without the weights and the resistance of the sand will help givin good tone to your calves.

Wow crazical.. our usernames are really similar..anyway back on topic

From what i've heard on other forums, as long as you don't use them in a way that puts the extra pressure directly on your joints(such as kicking the air), they're fine to to use. Any weight training puts pressure on your joints, and this is another form.. All in all, just use your best judgement. If you get a lot of continual join pain from them then don't use them.
