workout type

Hi, I need to know the name for a type of workout and where I can find more information on it.

There is a technique for building muscle mass and endurance often used in martial arts training. It involves no weight, only the straining of your muscles against imaginary weight as you move through the range. Imagine doing a bench press with no barbell, but straining your muscles against themselves as if you were pushing weight up.

anyone know the name of this?

I think you are referring to isometrics. It's works to a point. You will only be able to strengthen yourself to a point doing this. There are mechanoreceptors in your hands and feet (among others) that sense pressure. If you are contracting the muscle and there is no pressure on these receptors, you will not trigger growth, and you will not get much stronger.

Mortal arts training has its own specificity. You don’t need to make great efforts here, and it is more important to do many repetiotions with middle weight.
