Will this plan work?

Hello everyone! I just recently joined this forum so that I could get some input on a weight loss plan I've developed. Well I've been wanting to lose weight for as long as I can remember, I have just had a hard time getting motivated and sticking with a plan that works in my busy schedule. Well I have finally decided on a plan and I'm going to stick to it this time! Ok, well I've been walking on the treadmill for an hour about 4 to 5 days a week (at least, sometimes more) I'm walking at a pace of about 3 miles per hour and I use the incline, varying things, like I'm walking up and down hills and what not. I've also been trying to really watch what I eat. I don't snack as much as I used to and I've been cutting things in half or at least stopping when I know I'm full. And if I have sweets, I try to limit it to just one thing. If anyone has any tips or tricks that could help me with my weight loss plan, that would be great! I would like to lose about 30 pounds. Any advice would be appreciated! Also I was wondering when I should expect results, so I don't get discouraged.

It has a good chance to work - but it is hard for someone else to say that it definitely will work without an idea of the calorie level that you are reducing to.

You will understand that someone that eats a lot of calories can cut down what they eat and still eat more than their body needs. You will only lose weight if you eat less than your body burns (and will continue to gain weight if you eat more).

The best thing that I can suggest is that you count your calories (at least for a while to get the feel of things). Many people benefit from using a free account at fitday.com. It not only helps you track your calories - but whether your body is getting the right balance of the nutrients that it needs.

Walking is an excellent form of exercise. It has been my main form of exercise during my weight loss project. Your treadmill may calculate how many calories you burn with your walking if you key in factors such as your weight, gender, age (as mine does). If not - there are calculators on the internet. In addition you can calculate your BMR to discover how many calories your body burns simply by being alive. If you combine the total you have a good idea what you are burning each day.

Naturally you want to consume less calories than you are burning in order to lose weight. Many people try to create a deficit in the order of 500 calories per day.
