Will this make you a better fighter?

I know there are a lot of threads on punching bags and boxing and stuff, but i was just wondering if anyone practices basic punches on a punching bag? If you do this consistantly, will it help you increase your strength, speed, and/or endurance? I'm in my bulking phase right now so i'll only be doing this like twice a week, but i want to learn to throw punches too. Will punching the bag help me learn how to fight better?

Just punching a bag does not insure that you will become a better fighter. Learning technique and then sparring against a larger/skilled opponent will make you a better fighter.

I am a black belt in tae kwon do and if you wanted to actually be a better "fighter"....its all in timing distance...technique...mental state, etc....just punchin wont actually make you a better fighter but if the bag is heavy enough it will greatly improve the strength of your punches if you do it right....Ive got one hangin froom my garage(I put it up after I got out of karate) and when I started hitting it I could barely move it around(its very heavy...took 2 men to hang it up)...its been about a month and I **** you not whenever I punch it my garage door shake..er...what Im tryin to get at is that it will make you stronger in your punches yes...but as far as fighting ablility.I dont think so...hope this helps!

Yeah that definitely helps, thanks! I guess to make me a better fighter i need to watch a boxing video or take some kind of fighting lessons. But at least the punching bag will help with my punches,

You're welcome...but ya...nothin beats lessons....and if your punches are stronger when you take lessons youll be that much better...and you may be able to knock your sparring partner around better lol.

Haha that would be awesome to just show up to lessons and the first time i spar with someone i knock em out. lol

Don't forget that punching will also strengthen your wrist. That way, you punch better and minimize the risk of wrist injury.
