Why isn't it working

i ve put on a bit of weight since i havent been playing rugby so have decided to loose it.

i've been going to the gym now for 2 weeks, 5 times a week. i didn'e expect to see much weight loss in this period but i havent lost a thing. i have been eating healthy but am stumped why i havent seen any loss at all.

when training, my heart rate has been between 125 to 150 and i do at least 45 mins in each session. is this high enough?

any suggesstions would be great.

many thanks

BOB

Also you won't see much results after two weeks. You can only lose about 1 lb a week of fat, and your weight fluxuates up to 5 pounds due to water, so you may have actually lost fat, but the scale won't show it if you are drinking more water now.

This is very true, as discouraging as it can be. You can't rely on the scale for progress!

Weigh in at 126.5 lbs this morning, my heaviest. But I have been drinking lots and lots of water for the past two weeks(4 or 5 times the amount I normally drink).

Could what I see on the scale is water weight? or muscle mass since I have been lifting weights as well and the dumbells are getting heavier and heavier(I am getting stronger)?

Thanks!

Well do you notice any changes? You could have gained more muscle mass and it evened out with fat loss, but yeah its probably just water right now. Also, how tall are you, because you may not want to lose much "weight" and try to maintain your weight while losing fat/increase muscle.

dont care about weight loss, care more about fat loss and muscle gains, your scale and weight lies to you, it flucates so much (for me about ± 15 lbs every could days) just look at your waist line, see if your pants start to slip off, i know my shorts slide down all the time now and im having to tie them up now.

Seriously... why isn't it working... I've been training hard for a week now, and nothing has changed. My waist line is exactly the same at 39.5... weight's exactly the same at 200... holy shiat... this is so discouraging...

if you could lose 10 lbs over night, we would be spared of all these fad diets. just keep going and you will seriously start to notice a difference.

i am going to the gym this amount of times for no real reason, im starting to enjoy it. can anyone suggest what cardio i should be aiming to do, what intesity and for how long?

at the minute i am doing 15 mins on the bike, 20 mins on the eliptical rider thingy and 10 - 15 on the runner. all with a heart rate over 130 but under 150. i also go and lift some weights after that

thanks

Your weight lifting routine is probably more important than cardio. And 45 minutes of cardio, 5 days a week, is WAY too much. I would suggest sticking to one machine and doing HIIT (high-intensity interval-training) - it's about a 25 minute work-out, quick and efficient. 3 days a week should suffice.

Back to lifting... what do you do?

I preform 2 days a week weight training (started training for strength and function with Evolution's help) and 4 days a week HIIT training. I love HIIT, 5 minutes warm up, 20 minute workout, 5 minute cooldown, its a great workout.

yeah HIIT is the best... now if only some would could start a fad with HIIT, or wait that will never happen cause you have to do something called "excersise"

i mainly work on my upper body to improve my strength. i do 3 set on each machine starting with 10 reps and then moving the weight up. the last set i can usually lift 5-6 reps. is this the right type of thing to increase size as well?

doing leg work out are crucial to entire body muscle devolopment, they increase the amount of testosterone in your body which makes muscles grow faster.

Yes, you shouldn't neglect working any bodypart.

And you should be using free weights as they are much better than the machines.
