Why does it feel like I ran 400 miles today?

Well, to start out with, Im an OK runner. On the treadmill I can run a mile in about 7:30 and on the track about 9:00. Today, its about 30 degrees out, and I ran my usual trail around my house. I measured it out and it was only 1.2 miles. It felt like I ran a million. My legs werent cramped, my heart was beating out of control.... but my lungs!!!

I used to the cold weather and I know it can affect your running and breathing. Was this the problem?

Also, what are some good lung excersises for increasing the amount of air you take in and slowing your breath?

Any help would be appreciated

Each time you take a breath, the air must be warmed to body temperature and humidifed to 100%, so your body was probably struggling just to do that. And the only way to make you 'breath slower' is to improve your aerobic fitness (AKA RUN!). And you can't really increase your lung's volume, but you can train your body to do better with what you've got, again running will help. You just need to build up your fitness level..
