Why can't I just do this?

Define frustration:

Frustration is an emotional response to circumstances where one is obstructed from arriving at a personal goal. The more important the goal, the greater the frustration. It is comparable to anger and disappointment.

My personal goal is weight loss. It is very important to me. I'm angry at myself and disappointed. I am the obstruction. I've been in a yo-yo pattern for years now:

1998: 180 (freshman year of HS)
1999: 200
2000: 215
2001: 230
2002: 190
2003: 215
2004: 240
2005: 275
2006: 240
2007: 270
2008: 307

I have no excuse. I need to lose weight and lots of it.

I'm going to update this blog without exception.

My goal is to drop 50 lbs before December 14th, 2008. That leaves me 104 days/3.5 months/15 weeks. To lose 50 lbs, I'd have to drop 3-4 lbs a week. I think if I change my diet and exercise, I can achieve this. I eat horribly (pizza, fast food, chinese) and rarely workout. I am 25 going on 26.

I moved from the East Coast to the West Coast for a job. When I return home to see my family and friends for Christmas, I want to be healthy. I said the same thing last year...

Breakfast:

-1 cup of whey protein (110 calories, 20 grams of protein)
-1 cup of fiber (135 calories, 15 grams of fiber)
-1 multivitamin, 1 gram CLA

-I'll be drinking a gallon of green tea

I eat horribly (pizza, fast food, chinese) and rarely workout.
Speaking from personal experience it's a lot less overwhelming if you make o ne change at a time... and stick with it for 28 days til you have it formed as a habit.

Don't make your "diet" so diety and restrictive -you're going to want to be able to live with it for the rest of your life.

And for the green tea? are you going with the decaf version? that's a LOT of caffeine and a lot of diuretic effects that will be had on your body... Water is really better for you...

and I moved your thread to the diary section

Is there sugar in the green tea? A gallon seems like a lot.

It sounds like you're very focused and determined. You can definitely do it! Congratulations on thinking it out and making a plan. Good luck - keep us updated!

I am making my own green tea. I take 2-3 packets and let it it sit in hot water. I then take the bags out and put it into my freezer. 0 calories and there is caffeine. I used to drink a lot of soda. I can't go completely cold turkey -- I do have to maintain my job performance.

I agree with you...making a diet to "diety" could set me up for failure, but I'm going to give it a go. Let's see what happens!

No sugar. I make it myself with green tea packets and water.

there's nothing wrong with caffeine -but if caffeinated drinks is your sole source of liquid- you might want to make it a 50/50 split..

Hey there! It sounds like you may be motivated this time around... I just want to see you set yourself up for success. Like maleficent said, you may want to consider making gradual changes so this can be more of a change in lifestyle rather than just another "diet". You also have to think about the long term... after you lose the weight you want to, what will you do to maintain it? With a lifestyle change, you won't have to do much but continue on the path you are already on... with a diet, it can be devastating if you go back to your old habits.

I found that watching what I eat and sticking to healthy food and counting my calories have been the most successful for me so far. I go to the gym when I can (I have various injuries that keep me from going more often). Check out my diary and see if it may help you out.. I list out the foods I eat every day along with their caloric values.

Make sure to be realistic and you'll end up successful. :) We're here for you, you can do this!

I appreciate the kind words and I understand the gradual change concept. Unfortunately, I've tried it. If I'm not getting tangible results quickly, I tend to rationalize going back to bad habits. I know...not the greatest characteristic.

I've put a great deal of thought into this and I feel radical change is needed. Maybe I'll fail...but I'm not afraid to fail. I can always adjust and evolve.

Thanks again =)

That's a great attitude and one I'm just now learning. I think as long as you have that "adjust" attitude and are able to switch gears if the diet gets too restrictive you'll do great. I hope this works for you longterm but if not then hey, at least it's getting you off to a running start :) Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Thanks. You know when it really hit me?

When my suits started getting tight. Nothing like spending a few thousand on fitted suits and then not having them fit six months later. Ugg..

I don't know about that, haven't done office work in a while and women I think can get away cheaper anyway. But I haven't been able to wear jeans in SOOO long and I'm seriously sick of stretchy pants. Only 34 and I feel so frumpy. I'm grateful for this forum though, nice to not be alone and have people tell me to stop makin excuses and get on with it :) Hope you like it as much as I do.
