when to take protein

i just have a question about when i should take my protein shake. right now i work until 4:30 and get to the gym about 4:50. with lunch at noon i am starving by about 4 so i take my protein shake. i finish my workout at about 5:45 or 6 and then have supper when i get home. but after reading a bit i learned that protein from meat and such won't get digested for a while later. so should i wait to take my shake after my workout even though i am going to be eating right away or will the protein from the shake i take an hour before my workout be digesting slow enough to help me recover during and after my workout?
 
the choice of solid food after a workout sounds awhole lot better than not eating for so many hours before your workout. ideally the case is make for quick liquid calories after a workout but plenty of ppl have solid food at that time and do very well.

so the shake before and food after is fine because thats the best you can do for now. go with it. :)
