When the bikini won't fit... (My reason for joining)

Hi All,
Today I bought a bikini. I live in Australia, on the Northern Coast and as the weather is coming into summer here I decided I would buy myself a bikini to make the most of it. Here, a size 16 is the biggest you can buy without going into plus sizes. Usually that allows me a nice fit and I can just take it home, but when I got home and tried it on, it just didn't cut it. My love handles and ass were falling out around the edges... A big downer after a bout of retail therapy.

I have been overweight since about 8 years old. I have kind of just dealt with it, never seen it as a particular problem because once I got past 15, I didn't really gain any weight, just stayed at around 85 kg. Doctors have suggested that I try lose some of it but that usually encourages me for about a week then I go back to my usual habits. It hasn't been considered a worrying health risk, as my cholesterol levels are low and I'm otherwise healthy.

I am currently just over 85kg, but since stopping going to uni and taking on a full time office job, I have lost a bit of muscle and gained a bit of fat, hence the bikini not fitting. Also, rich foods that I buy for lunch and dinner in my new job haven't particularly helped, but that is easily fixed now I have become aware of it, and I have started making and taking my own food to work.

I need some motivation, or even some suggestions to get me started. I'm not in this for the model-like body (even though that's what we all wish for), I just want to be able to feel fit and healthy and get down to a healthy weight. 70kg would suit me fine, even if it is on the heavier side of healthy. Suggestions on exercise regimes would be much appreciated...

If you have any questions or suggestions, please share! Also, I would like to get in contact with someone who would be willing to keep me accountable, check in with once a week that I can be honest about my habits to... None of my friends have weight problems so I don't really feel comfortable discussing it with them.

Thanks guys!

Hi,

Have you started your weight loss plan. If not, start detox your body with the master cleanse recipe to clean up your body and lose some weight.

Hi Stephanie.

As the Japanese say, Ganbatte! (kind of a cross between "work hard" and "good luck")

I personally don't have a huge weight problem either, but I understand not being happy with how you look. I could do without the growing mid-section.

I don't think I have the absolute answer, but whenever I have a challenge ahead of me, be it fitness or something else, I have a daily brainwashing routine I go through. Every (or almost every) morning, I go for about a 20-25 minute walk. This isn't what I consider my exercise time. It's a low-key time where I just think about my current life goals. I focus on them, thinking about how happy I will be when I achieve them, and thinking about how disappointed I'll feel if I don't achieve them. I try to think of new reasons every day. Then I think about the details of actually achieving them for me. It doesn't matter what others say. It's gotta be what works for you.

Just some thoughts...
Again, ganbatte!

Detox does not work. It is a fad, a myth. You don't have a bunch of crap lodged up inside of you. This isn't going to 'clean' your body and you won't lose actual weight. You will just lose water..'temporary' weight.

Hi Steph, if I were you, I would start by eating healthy small meals and doing some form of exercise that I would enjoy.

Really simple things are all you need to do to get started.

If you drive, park further away from where you need to end up so you have to walk to your car further. Try walking completely instead of driving. If you get the bus, try getting off a couple of stops early and walking.

Take the stairs instead of the lift.

As for food, just try having a little bit less at meal times, have fruit or nuts as snacks and maybe try having water instead of the drinks you would normally have.

Little by little you'll notice improvements to your general wellbeing (and hopefully on the scales).

Eventually as you feel more comfortable in what you are doing you can become more self reliant and perhaps can step it up to more hardcore levels, being strict on bad foods and hitting up the gym. It sounds impossible now, but as you make baby steps it becomes easier and easier.

Good luck.

Hi Steph!
Nice to meet you :)
I grew up on the north coast but escaped a while back now lol
I agree that just by making small changes to your diet and trying to do a bit extra exercise you'll soon see a difference. If you're ever up to it try the lighthouse walk at Byron Bay (not sure how north you are) - it's a killer but awesome walk :)
Best of luck,

Jess

Hi there, i have a similar issue, i'm not necessarily overweight but probably have a few extra lbs

one of the things that keeps me from eating the richer foods all the time is keeping track of how many calories consumed thoughout the day. I've recently joined this website and another where they have all sorts of caluclators and graphs and such which you can enter all the foods you eat during the day and it works out the calorie content and can contrast this with the amout of calories you burn though your lifestyle and activities and i'm thinking seeing the progress in a graph plus support from people on this website will be a good way to keep on track :) good luck

Hi Stephanie

Willing to talk to you anytime!

You are getting some good tips, Weight Watchers with added exercise works!
We just need to commit! Eating healthy and watching portion sizes can help. Drinking plenty of water can help. Cut out all chips, candy, cookies, and cakes. Snack on fruits, veggies, and popcorn.

Good Luck..

Anna

Hi

I was exactly your weight when I started my weight loss journey. Weight watchers helped me loose 22 lbs so far.
Good luck!!! The hardest part is taking it one day at a time, and realizing it's a long journey. It will not be a quick fix.

I LOOOOOOVE KAT VON D!!! thanx man! She's like my hero! haha, I never thought about looking her up though, I mean, it would make sense thast she made a tutorial on how to make tee-shirts like hers. >_< oh, and I also found a great website for that kind of stuff too....
