what's your secret way to shake off temptation?? let's share!!

Aw shucks, it's nice to feel appreciated.

Since I wrote that entry, I've had good days overall. I had one slip up, going to my favorite local bar where I am a regular (REALITY CHECK: IT'S NOT GOOD WHEN EVERYONE KNOWS YOUR NAME). I didn't explode or anything, didn't eat wings or drink 6 beers, but you're absolutely right: I can't "dabble". I don't have the equipment for that.

But just like smoking, you don't quit once. You quit every single time you slip and recommit. It's the impulse, that's all. Go for it again, it's getting easier.

I've had a steady burn and lost 8-9 pounds in 10 days, but the fairy tale will be over soon in terms of quick results. I feel LOADS better (I'm pretty sure I have a stomach hernia). I'm also hooked on my workout, which is great. I walk for an hour a day at the gym that's only 1/4 mile from my house, and I love being able to synthesize my own opioids, which you can get good at with practice. So I guess I'm a workout junkie now.

I guess I'll start a journal...

Later

when I buy something at the store that I could potentially binge on, I make it VERY hard to get to. for example, if I bought a bag of cookies I would first put it in a zip lock bag, then a tied up grocery bag, then a tupperware, and then I would put it somewhere in the kitchen that is really hard to get to like the cubbard above the fridge. That way if I really wanted one I would have to go through a long process to get it. :)

But then do you eat the cookie anyway?

sure! I only allow myself to have one at a time, so if i want another one i have to go through the whole process of getting a stool to reach the cubbord....etc. Its just a way of not making the sweets so available. It makes me think to myself, "do i really want to go through all that trouble just for one cookie?"

Wow - that would so not work for me. Cool it helps you though.

I look round for a substitute immediately... fruit, or a low-fat yoghurt or something like that... (anything I've decided is "acceptable" snacking food!!!) I know it will divert my attention from the "naughty" snack that's tempting me and take away that craving. :D

Failing that I try to focus on something else. If I'm at home, listening to some music usually works (music makes me think of a night out, which makes me think of getting dressed up which immediately motivates me to stick with the diet etc) Or I'll log onto the forum and try to strengthen my resolve that way.
