What the heck is goin on??

Its been 6 weeks sense i separated my right shoulder and it his pretty much healed, mostly. I can do every thing but any kind of press!!!! For example i snatched 225 twice yesterday with no problem and no pain. I also did my 5x5 hang cleans with no prob. Today i tried to bench press 30lb dumbbells and i felt like i was gonna pop my shoulder out again. The same with chest flys too.

What the he!! is going on!! Its startin to piss me off a bit

i dislocated my left shoulder (for the 4th time) over 2 years ago. Im up to 50lb dumbells. its taken that long to recouperate. I can press much more with regular barbell bench presses but the stabilization is tough with dumbells. Can you do lateral and side raises to strengthen the deltoids? It took me a while till the crunching in my shoulder went away, the doctor said that it was just the scar tissue wearing away. Either way the shoulder is a tough one on the recoup time.

The shoulder is a horrible joint to injure. I tore the labrum in my left shoulder 8 years ago. I had surgery to repair it, my friend kindly reversed the procedure one day when trying to pull me out of a seat to dance by my left arm, and it has never been the same since. I cannot do overhead press with dumbbells and cannot do anytype of fly exercise as my shoulder will sublux and my workout will be over until the shoulder pops back in and swelling subsides.

The shoulder by nature is an unstable joint and by using dumbells you are putting as much strain on it as possible. I spent 6 months in PT before I got the surgery done and in those 6 months the shoulder never got strong enough to be comfortable doing motions that used to be normal to me.

I can't say for sure, but I would guess that in separating your shoulder you would stretch a lot of the ligaments that hold the socket together. When you stretch them too far they don't just "snap back to normal" once the shoulder is back in. They help to keep the shoulder in place and I'd say its safe to assume that it will take some time before they are back to their normal state of keeping your shoulder in place and stable. Like I said I don't know for sure, that would just be the way I picture it in my world.

Good Luck :)
