What is the actual name for that half ball at the gym?

Out of hand? Nah... just very well discussed.

In my opinion, I would say bellydancers have good abdominal coordination and body awareness. I'm not sure about it toning your abs though.

Considering belly dance was all I was doing at one point, and that's when the abs really started to show tone... AND my core felt a lot stronger, I'd have to say it was a big part of getting them on their way. Besides, I can do all kinds of fun things like full body undulations & reverse undulations... and do that fun belly 'wave' thing.

Now, if I can get to where I can flip a quarter down my stomach... I may have to call Ringling anyway. :biggrinjester: (where's that bosu?)

But what is the driver of a toned abdominal region?

It's reduced fat levels.

Belly dancing very well could've gave you a stronger belly. In fact, I'm sure it did. And I bet you have a ton more coordination.

But the toning, I'd place money on, had mostly to do with your caloric state.

Oh, ok! I see where you're coming from... change in terminology makes more sense. Yes, much stronger abdominal region, and yes, reduced fat levels so I can actually see the definition happening!

Tons more coordination and balanced. Still the occasional 'bull in the china shop' moment, and corners of furniture and I will never get along (I have a permanent set of bruises to prove it), but I can balance a lot better now.

haha no its not out of hand its just funny how I asked a simple question and it turns into a 3 page thread. That is all.

Why?

Not being a dick and not attacking you.

But what do you think you are getting out of doing squats on the ball that makes you enjoy them?

Everyone has their own opionion on different ways of doing things. What one person might like and finds effective might not be what the next person likes.

I also do a few other exercises on the ball. For me it's not so much about gaining balance but using the ball as another form to strengthen my ankles.

For now for ME it's the form that I find most effective for for the level of fitness that I am starting at.

But thanks for sharing all of your views/thoughts/knowledge on what you know or believe of the bosu ball. I'll take it into consideration.

Oh I certainly appreciate that fact, believe me.

You sort of blended two ideas into that; one dealing with what one likes and the other dealing with what one finds effective.

I firmly believe that enjoyment is of paramount importance. If people don't like what they're doing, they aren't going to be consistent, or worse, they're going to give up.

So I'm with ya.

When it comes to different people finding different levels of effectiveness out of the same tool... I'm not sure how I feel about that. I mean, in a way, the human body will adapt to a given stress universally. So what one gets out of the ball is what the other will get out of the ball, assuming both use it the same exact way.

Without a doubt, if there's one thing I learned over the years, it's that there is an optimal way of going about things. And what's optimal isn't always right given individual circumstance.

With that in mind, I really think it comes down to finding the right blend between what someone enjoys while getting as close to optimal as possible. That's probably going to give people the most bang for their buck.

I just want to reiterate... I was not attacking you or your ideas really. My only intent in this thread is to make sure people are asking the right questions when they select their training tools.

Primarily 'why?'

Why am I using this? What do I know about this? What adaptations does using this particular tool translate into and how does that relate to my goals?

Gotcha, thanks.

oh no worries...I never felt like you were attacking me or my choices....but that poor bosu ball never stood a chance with you. :rotflmao:
