Hi guys,

Today I stepped on the scale and I am the heaviest I have ever been. I am 14 pounds up since three months ago. I know some of you are thinking it is not a big deal but to me it is huge. I have always struggled with weight.

I am seriously thinking of starving myself. I feel so low and sad.

I have been very blessed this year however. I got married to the man of my dreams 7 months ago. I have beenso happy. We are trying to a baby. I removed my IUD 6 weeks ago. Im not sure if this is what is causing the weight gain. Maybe my hormones are all out of whack?

I have no motivation to work out and I feel so tired all the time.

I am so grateful I found these forums. I am glad I am not alone.

Here is to taking the first step.

Breathe! No need to starve yourself. You didn't put on the weight over a week. Sure, 3 months you put on 14 pounds. But those 14 pounds could come off in the same amount of time. Keep in mind that it's the shotgun approaches to losing weight, like starving yourself, that wreck your relationship with food, do a number on your metabolic health and muscle mass, and in the vast majority of cases lead to weight regain (plus some).

So yeah... don't do that.

Just accept where you are and start a journey of learning new, tiny skills that start to change how you relate to food and your fitness. There is no too small. Everything is optional. Just do something!

With that said... what's a change you'd feel comfortable making for the next couple of weeks?

Steve!

Thank you for your post. You're right. I am freaking out.

I think the first step is to track what I am eating. And I think I should cut out snacking after dinner.

I feel better. I guess I needed someone to just knock some sense into me and shed some light.

Thank you!

How confident are you that you can stop snacking after dinner? And how do you actually plan on implementing it?

Well, I am not sure. I think it will be really tough. Maybe I could limit it to veggies and fruits in the evening and drink lots of water and herbal tea?

Hi Anne & welcome to the forum. :iagree: with Steve. Relax, take a deep breath & work out a doable plan, (which does not include starving yourself). Let us know what a "usual" day's eating is & then what you think you might do to improve that. Tracking what you are eating is a very good idea. Most of us eat more than we think & exercise less than we think. You have come to a good place for moral support & there are many people in here with a lot of knowledge on exercise & nutrition. When you have time have a look around some of the "stickies" at the top of various sections of the forum. All the best Anne. You can do this. Cheers, Cate.

Thanks Cate!

I was browsing some forums and I like the 5:2 fast plan. It sounds interesting. Thanks for your kind words and support.

Best of luck to you to Cate

Hi Anne, :seeya:

I personally have to track and weight every ounce of food that goes it my mouth. It's been the only way I have consistent success over the years. A lot of us use My Fitness Pal to track, I really like it. I also sync my fitbit with it so it really helps give me a more accurate account of my true calorie burn.

Good luck with whatever path you chose. You will find what works and you will have people here that support your choices. :grouphug:

Honestly, I think that if you're not at least 90% confident in a given target skill/habit... the target's too big. You should either pick a different target or scale the target back to make it easier. Which is along the lines of what you're thinking here... "Well maybe I can snack but I'll make it volume-based, energy-sparse foods like fruits and veggies.

Sounds good on paper. But if you think you aren't likely to do that, too... then again, scale or change.

Why do you think you snack after dinner? Do you think it's mostly physical hunger driving it or emotional/environmental induced?

Hey Anne!
Another welcome to the forum and good job rethinking the starvation plan. I know we should all take care of ourselves because we´re worth it and all that but for a start it´s often easier to do it for someone/something else. So maybe you can think about getting your body fit to host a possible baby and giving it all the nutrients it needs. It may take a couple of tries (I know I keep falling flat on my face and getting up again) but you will find your way to a healthier future. All the best on your journey!
