do u think this will help??
please give me some advice.. thanks~ ^^

Hey

What all are your goals / current stats? What all do you want to accomplish?

Jumping rope can be a great cardiovascular activity, if your legs can handle it for a sufficient amount of time.

i weigh 132 currently..
and my goal is 121-124..
my legs are HEALTHY!! i'm not sure if thats a good thing or not..
but they are strong and healthy ^^
my knees used to hurt when i walked or ran too much when i was a kid..
the doctor said that my height grew too fast and my bones couldnt catch up or something.. but its gone now so.. i think my legs can handle it..

but i've heard that jumpin on cement roads make ur claves thick..
is it true?? then should i stop jumpin ropes??

How long have you been doing this? How is your eating? Jumping rope is certainly a great form of exercise and if you can stick with it, that is great. There are other things that would be beneficial to add to it however.

Well at least you are doing a kind of sports. That is really great. I think it is always very important that you do exercises which you really enjoy doing. Otherwise it doesn't make sense, because you don't do the them constantly. It depends on which parts of your body you want to train. Now you are doing a special training for your legs and your booty. If you want to train your belly you should probably do some other exercises like sit-ups!

1,000 reps of jump rope is nothing to sneeze at. It took me a really long time to get to that point, even though I'm athletic, yet I still had to break it up into smaller chunks... doing 100 reps, then something else, then doing 150, etc. I'm just now to the point where I can do 600 reps non-stop and it's still hard once I get past 400. If you're doing 1,000 reps non-stop, that's really hard. Yes, this will definitely help in terms of fat loss and cardio capability.

This whole winter I did about the same thing as you, 1,400 jump rope reps at least 3 or 4 days a week, but I weigh 30 pounds more than you, and the results were far from "thick calves".

Hi sEoYeOn,

Like steve, I'm assuming you're female too... because you say your goal weight is 121.
I think jumping rope is a great cardio workout... but.. I find it too high impact and don't feel comfortable jumping up and down for any length of time.
If you enjoy it I would certainly add it into a routine filled with some other forms of exercise.

But, Jane1975... I'm gonna look into my crystal ball and guess that you are about 32, and female... possibly named jane...

The cards never lie

EDIT:

Also, I wouldn't worry about thick calves from this. I used to jump rope at the end of boxing practices at college, and I still have the calves of a 110lb girl.

Muscle growth is a function of a specific stimulus coupled with adequate energy (calories).

Doing a highly aerobic exercise isn't going to build muscle even if your calories are sufficient.

At least not to the degree you're talking about.

yes i'm a female..
i really enjoy jumpin ropes because i do them whenever i'm too stressed to study anymore.. i go out and jump ropes outside our dorm.. maybe its the fresh air and everything but when i'm done jumpin i feel fresh again..
and i can go back to my work easily..

i usually do 100 at a time and rest for 2,3 minutes.. i stretch my muscles durin break and do some basic yoga movements that i learned from a friend.. it makes me feel alive because i usually sit around all day..
sometimes i do 150 but that way i cant really do anything afterwards.. i have to go right to sleep :p

oh! and i've broken 1000 and started doing 1100 from a couple of days ago!! i plan to stay on 1100 for a while and then go up again.. that way i have a motive to keep doin it i think..

but i'm not tryin to grow muscles or anything.. i've heard that doin aerobic excercises and muscle trainin at the same times is better but i dont really know how to train muscles.. do i have to go to the gym?? cause i dont like goin to gym that much.. :p
