What are your biggest No No's?

What foods will you absolutely NOT eat that you loved before. There were foods that I loved almost everyday and now that I look at how much fat and calories they contained, I will not touch them. For me, it's mayonaise, margarine, and Tortino's pizza. I loved mayo on all my sandwiches, but with 100 calories and 11 grams of fat per Tbsp, no way. Also, margarine went on everything like toast, grits, veggies, and I would glob it on there too. About once a week, I would buy me and the kids tortino's pizzas (1 each, they're not too big) and we would eat them for lunch. Ouch!

What are yours?

Ah yes, the dreaded french fry. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do when my kids have McDonald's. I do love those little hamburgers with some super salty fries.

There is no real no no food for me, but I did stop bingeing, binge eating & binge drinking especially drinking I used to be awful, but I've stopped now :) I haven't been drunk for 9 months, I do still drink, but not ever often & only one or two! Enjoy sensibly ;)

I never liked fried foods so that's always been a nono - but the one thing I am avoiding these days because I can't have just one is alcohol... my liquor cabinet is far too dusty - the tequilla aged like a fine cognac just calls to me - the vodka that is just so smooth seduces me - the single malt scotch - oh divine... Guiness... ooooh tasty guiness... Nope I'm off booze for a while.. (which is good, seeing as I come from a long line of alcholics so a little abstinance is good)

My New No, No's:

White Bread and Soda

I never did like fried foods, the smell of the grease was just nasty....but I do like some Mickie D's fries every so often. I usually get a kids meal so it's not usually that big a deal.

Probably soda aka pop. Haven't had one in a year and a half. Went cold turkey on HS graduation day, didn't have one for four months, lost 40lbs over that time span. Gradually worked back to 1-2 a day and realized that I didn't need it at all. Been clean ever since:p

I've found I can no longer tolerate anything that's deep fried. I had a dinner in January that was 100% fried food, and the next morning my blood pressure was up 15 points! That convinced me to make that my last fried food meal.

Hi TomO,

Having read your post made me wonder in my total ignorance... Is it import to check the blood pressure frequently? Is necessary to keep control of it and how this affect anybody's weight?

I have to be honest and say I haven't reached that level where I can't it fried food meals!!!!!! But I hope one day I will get there!!!! Congratulations because I believe this is a very good goal!!!!!

At the moment I can't think of any meal I wouldn't eat because of its calories or fat. Reason why? Because if I want to eat it, I simply do it but in less quantity that I normally would do it. (hope that makes sence)

Hi TomO,

Having read your post made me wonder in my total ignorance... Is it import to check the blood pressure frequently? Is necessary to keep control of it and how this affect anybody's weight?

No, it's not important to check it frequently, unless you're close to being hypertensive, and don't care to go on meds to control it. I was blissfully unaware of my bp for most of my life, but now that I'm older, lots of people my age are having medical procedures -- bypasses, angioplasties, etc. -- that stem from heart disease or problems with their arteries.

High bp "chips" the walls of your arteries, damaging them in the process. When those arteries are repaired, plaque is like the plaster that's used. The plaque can fall off and clog your artery, or even kill you.

So the best thing, of course, is not to need that plaster in the first place. Having systolic bp below 120 and diastolic bp below 80 (I think the ideal now is 115/75) is the way to do that.

If you're young, and have had no history of heart problems, then checking it once a year is probably just fine. For the past 10 years, I had mine checked when I gave blood every 3 months. I only started checking it regularly when the two visits to the blood bank in a row yielded bp's of 145/95.

It's not that BP will contribute to weight gain; it's the opposite. Carrying around all that extra weight puts extra pressure on your heart. Not only that, but generally, the extra weight will also increase your resting pulse substantially. Just to give you an example, by decreasing my resting pulse from 69 to its current 51, that's 9 million fewer beats per year!

If you do have elevated BP, it's very easy to check it regularly. They sell BP monitors at the drugstore, which also measure your resting pulse, by the way, for about $75, and they're quite reliable.

Thank you

Thank you for that. I think 58 is still young to be honest.

I'm 28 yrs old so I think at the moment I'll stick to just my scale. :D

Give blood regularly -they'll check your blood pressure for you.. even at your age - it's important to know what your blood pressure is... and to keep it under control...

I'm trying to give up french fries, my favorite fast food. The past two days I've been offered them and have said no both times!

CHEAH.

Oh the memories......

First and foremost soda and the dreaded sugar trap, SLURPEES!!!!

My first true love I think was the slurpee....... And boy did it break my heart!

I asked once why there were no diet coke slurpees at 7-eleven and heres the reason... To maintain the nice smooth icy texture without freezing the machine solid and potentially damging the machine itself (it is a mixer, not a blender or grinder) you must put in MORE sugar than just the standard soda syrups...... Oy! I shudder to even consider now....

Also in that category French Fries! And in fact everything deep fried.

Deep frying makes anything taste better!

But now-a-days I get a little naseous even smelling french fries or deep fried chicken. And soda only makes me think of sugar and high fructose corn syrup...... Lukicly!

Ok ok most probably I'll get slammed in all directions for saying this but my answer is:
NONE!

I eat all. I have no restriction. The only foods I don't eat are those I don't like.. like bitter gourd, raw onions, anything with pungent smells, etc.

Wanna know the most sinful but delicious food I eat?
pig trotter, pork belly, KFC (the fatty thigh & drumstick, not chicken breast!), the famous german pork knuckle, roast pork, all sorts of curries or anything cooked with coconut milk, innards which have high cholesterol levels, the local deep-fried delicacies...

Hmmmm... sounds like I'm gonna have a heart attack any moment?

Oh but I eat those very rarely.. Not even once a month for some of the items!

Now don't get me wrong, IF I already have a heart problem or any other healthy conditions, ALL those would be a no-no most probably. But if you're still healthy, having all those once in a blue moon wouldn't do harm.

What is important is the serving size, as well as the frequency of intake... and balance...

After my 2-piece KFC meal, I would crave for cherry tomatoes and get turned off by the idea of having another KFC meal... until a few weeks later.. and then I start feeling like having kfc again.. and I do..

One thing I must say is:
Don't eat because you want to lose weight, or because you want to satisfy your hunger, your greed, etc2... but eat because you love the flavors, savour the food, take time to eat it, don't gobble it all! Appreciate the food, from its cooking process, to presentation, to flavors, to the nice feeling of how it settles in your stomach. But never get too full! ;)

Mike and Ikes. Man, I use to be able to nosh on a box of those bad boys like crazy. Heck, I wasn't too picky with any candy. Now, candy must stay awaaaaaay from my house (which is interesting with 3 kids...)

Deep fried mozzerella sticks yum!!
Ice cream
Potato chips and dip
Onion rings and french fries
Fast food tacos. Oh how I love them. They are a real red light food for me I can eat 3 or 4 at a sitting!I love them soooo much!!
