what am i doing wrong??????

hi..i'm a little desperate here...i've been doing the elliptical at full strength, 30 a day every day, and jogging 30 minutes a day about 3 times a week, also free weights for my upper body every day and crunches...i've been on a 1400 or less calorie diet with all nutritious food...no sodas or tea or coffee, just water and lots of it...it has been 4 and 1/2 weeks, i've lost a whopping 2 pounds....i am about to try the 600 calorie a day diet...i will gladly take any advice ....or suggestions....what am i doing wrong?????

2lbs per week is the normal.

Post excactly what you eat and the times you eat it. You may also want to incorprate lower body into your weight training.

600kcals a day sounds WAAAAAYYYYY too little. I'd be eating at least twice that.

You can get 600kcals just from a good lunch!

, i'm 34, i used to be a health nut, vegetarian, and taught kickboxing...so i should know what to do...but here i am. at a loss.. my typical day is like this...

7am-banana decaf coffee,fatfree cream

1100am, big salad, veggies only, maybe a teaspoon of ranch dressing, boiledegg, no yolk...and fruit for dessert.

4pm leancuisine meal, banana with peanut butter and raisins. sometimes a salad too

8pm, banana with peanut butter and raisins

everyday: 30 minutes on my elliptical with heart rate of 160-168
crunches, 3 sets of 30
about 4 or 5 different arm sets with 5 lb. weights.
butt crunches-2 sets of 50
jogging about 4-5 times aweek 30 minutes no breaks
about 1 and 1/2 gallon of water a day, no other fluids at all

ps...at 145 pounds, i was wearing a size 4-5 in jeans, which seems like a lot of weight for such a small jean sz...i'm wearing barely a sz 12 now....
thank you so much for listening and any advice at all...i am so discouraged...i should have never got on the scale this morning!!

You are serioulsy undereating and that will hault any kind of fat loss as your body will store what is DOES have.

Are 5 lb weights heavy for you? If they are, good but if you're not lifting to exhaustion you need to up the weights.

What about lower body exercises (weight training)?

She doesnt have to lift to exhaustion. Just get in a decent routine.

Dont forget, the lighter you become the harder it is to lose more weight. Its takes more energy to sustain a heavy body than a light one so you're expending less calories. Just keep up the cardio add in some weight training.

BUT KEEP EATING! As has been mentioned, you're not eating enough. You dont want your body to think you're fasting. A solid breakfast to sort your metabolism for the day and other proper meals.

I think that instead of all of our armchair comments, she needs to get with a doctor who can figure out her health and then help her develop the right kind of program for her.

For most people 5 lb weights will not build muscle. Building muscle will help to increase her metabolism which, in turn, will help her lose fat.

Upper body weights everyday? Abs everday? Cardio every day? Elliptical at full strength? 1400 calories?

I am a health nut (most of the time) and a vegetarian too. Plus a fitness trainer/nutritionist. You really need a complete overhaul! :)

There are lots of things you could do to make a better impact on your health. I regularly post 5 tips to fat loss on these boards. Here they are again.

1) Eat 5-6 small meals throughout the day. Each meal should be 2-3 hours apart. Each meal should contain one protein and one carb. The first meal should be eaten within an hour after waking.

2) Drink a cup of water at each meal.

3) Rest properly. This means taking at least 48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and it also means getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep per night. Lastly, it means taking 1-2 days off from exercising per week.

4) Cardio. This should be done at different intensity levels and different session lengths. Consider doing a low intensity/long session, a high intensity/short session and a few medium intensity/medium length sessions.

5) Strength Training. Strength train each muscle 1-3 times per week. You should lift a proper weight and perform the proper amount of sets/reps for your strength training method. If you need more guidance or exercise ideas you can head over

All of the above things combined will result in fat loss.
