Well here I am, on a weight forum...

:nopity:I know that sounds harsh, but here I am. I'm in tears as I type this. I've always worked out and maintained my weight. In the past, if I gained weight, it took a few weeks and I was back to where I wanted to be. Well now, things are different. I try and try and keep failing. The weight doesn't come off as quickly as it used to and I get so discouraged. I used to date a personal trainer years ago and I KNOW what to do. I've read books on top of books so I'm somewhat educated on health, fitness and weight loss. My problem is being discouraged. I've been exercising for about 7 or 8 months now(moderately). I've only lost 2 pounds and my weight keeps yo yo'ing. So basically I'm just maintaining the weight I've gained. I'm sick of it. I'm sick of doing so well and then weigh myself and not seeing much progress if any. I am so tired. The only thing I can think of is joining a support group to help me not give up. ONCE AGAIN, I've set up a strength training program, went to visit a counselor at our well being clinic here at work and I'm going to give it yet another try. I know I have a poor attitude but I'm so disgusted with myself. I WILL NOT let the big 4 0 come and I'm still like this. They say it all goes down hill after 35 and I'm fighting tooth and nail. God help me...

Honestly, I'm not sure why you youldn't be losing weight either. The only thing I can think of is that you are still consuming too many calories or there is something else going on with your body. Have you thought about consulting your doctor and having them doing tests for you... especially with your thyroid?
Just a thought.

Good luck though. You are obviously very dedicated and you can do it!

Thanks! I had my thyroid tested. I think it's more psychological...I guess. I consume too many calories too. Then on the weekends I sort of screw up with alcohol. I don't binge drink but I guess my body sees it as that since I wait until a certain day to do all of my drinking. I get invited to lots of parties and one drink turns into three. I guess I just have to get my act together. If I could only get rid of this belly and back fat, I could accept the rest...Gotta try harder!

Whoever the hell "they" is - lied...

Not true at all..

Yeah, I feel you. I also like your avi. I've seen some people in their 50's and they look VERY good and are very active. Then I've seen those that are late 30's early 40's and I guess they just gave up on life. So I think it's what you make of it. I want to make my mature years the best years of my life.

Exercising is awesome, and if you have that as part of your routine that's great! However, exercise won't do anything if you're eating too many cals (or drinking too many cals ex: alcohol, pop, juices). Lets say you work out and lose 600 cals, which is great. But then you eat too much and eat 1000 cals over what you should be. Then you're +400 cals. The exercise can only do so much. You really need to get ahold of your eating, once you get a good eating routine and stick to a certain level of calories, the weight will come off.

I know because I'm that way too. My appetite is ridiculous and as I like to say I can eat like a 300 pound man that has a very physical job! And if I don't watch myself I just maintain or slowly go up and up. So what I have to do is really watch what I eat. If you count all your calories, you'll be surprised how much certain things are and how fast it all adds up.

So if you keep exercising regularly plus add eating the right amount of calories with the right types of food, the weight should start coming off :)

WOW! Thanks for all of the replies. I didn't expect one. You're right, my eating is out of control. I drink mostly water so I don't drink many high calorie drinks at all. My calories come from grazing I think. I'm glad I'm here, at least I feel like I'm beginning to hold myself accountable. If I keep lurking here eventually I will be a success story!:hurray:

OK so you say you graze. What do you eat. Maybe if you ate something more substantial during meal time, you wouldn't feel hungry.

This time around I'm having a time too. I usually drop real quick, but I lost 2 lbs only, but for me, I'm trying to eat healthy and the weight loss is a 'side effect'.

Also, how much do you go to the bathroom? Sick question I know, but sometimes if you don't go properly, that can add at least 4 lbs to you.

This site really does help! Starting a diary is what I suggest. That's what many people do and it does help :) It's a great way to get out your feelings, write what you're doing everyday (ex: exercise, food, etc.) Plus it's a great way people can see that and support you and also give advice if you need it :)

I found out that nuts are FATTENING! This is what I would graze on. Since I've cut them out of my diet this past 3 weeks I've lost 2 pounds. WOW. I"m trying to eat five cups of veggies with fruit a day and really watch what I eat. I think it's consistency. But the real deal is that with the changes I"ve made, no real major show of weight lost. I have slacked on exercise which I'm getting on top of NOW. I think I'm much less active and need to make up some sort of activity. I really just need to be motivated. I am regular as far as going to the restroom. I eat lots of raw spinach and was taking coconut oil. I've stopped taking it because it's high in fat and I think that was another culprit. But it kept me regular and made my hair and skin feel wonderful.

I've tried keeping a diary and it did help as far as feeling guilty when I ate the wrong stuff. It did help me be accountable though. I'm going to start one again!

Joy Bauer Diet

I just started the Joy Bauer Life Diet on 12/29/08 and I am happy to say that I have lost 7 pounds in 11 days. I am following the book to the "T" so I think that is the secret. Headaches the first 3 days...I mean severe...but they tell me it is sugar withdrawal. All is fine now.

Just started a bikini bootcamp class 2 nights a week along with the 1 hr a day of cardio fitness. She's great, little tip of hers...eat like a cavewoman. Basically meat and vegetables only.

My goal is 115 lbs. I am currently 137 lbs.

I feel your pain. I've been around the same weight for over a year now. My exercise is not routine, but I do go 3-4 times a week. I am on Nutrisystem for the past two months (unless your strict on it, it wont work) and have not lost anything. I have a personal trainer who has taught me and continues to teach/train me on heavy strenght training and a nutritionist who monitors my eating.

My problem is staying consistant with eating. I look for any excuse to eat bad foods, which is disgusting to admit, but the truth.

Also, if I have even the smallest excuse to not go to the gym by myself, I will use that excuse to justify not going.

I was thinking about going to a therapist. I am willing to try everything to get where I want, but like any good American, I want it the easy fast way. i dont like feeling like im losing to myself.

That's how I feel, like I"m losing to myself. Losing weight was so easy for me in the past. I guess it takes more time. Reading these responses and looking back...I need to give it more time before sabotaging. Years ago, with my diet changes and exercise I would have lost 12 pounds in 4-5 weeks. Months are going by and I'm losing 4 pounds then gain 6 more. Thank you all so much. I'm feeling the motivation coming, it feels good not to feel alone. Thanks, you guys are really helping me think and look deeper inside.
