Welcome to me! :)

Hi - just introducing myself. I'm a 33 year old female with about 100 pounds to lose. I started at 256 and am now at 247 (woo hoo for 9 pounds)! I'm not sure how I'll use this site exactly, but I'm thinking the weight loss diary might be a good place to start. I feel like there is a fit and active me lurking underneath layers of unhealthiness - I see myself hiking, jogging, oooo... bike riding! I have an old 10 speed that would definitely need new tires, but I wonder if it would function? Hm. I wonder if it would hold me up!!! How much weight can those things take, anyway? (That's a serious question.)

Anywho, I have to learn BALANCE - between work, school, friends/family, and just life in general. (For instance, it is 1:49 am & I should really be in the bed getting some sleep!) Perhaps I'll be able to glean some wisdom from some of the people here. Hope everyone is doing well & living healthy!! :newbie:

Welcome, starting a diary is a great start! Congrtulations on yhour 9 Lbs!! That's awesome. You found a great community here.

Greetings, Hereicome150

I wish you good luck, I'm not an expert or anything. But perhaps a smaller goal will be more rewarding.

I.e.
Losing 100lbs, is a huge moutain to climb.

Starting slow might be the best way to overcome anything.
-Trying to lose an Inch on your waist might be a good goal rather then weight.
-Getting a tap measure to see your neck, wasit, and hips to see where you are at Bodyfat % wise, and trying to lose that a percent may be a good goal.

Making goals tell you get that 100lbs, will keep you motivated i beilive.

P.s. Sorry for all the grammer errors

Welcome in! That is a good long range goal, and believe me, it will come if you work at it. My goal was about 140, and I'm ALMOST halfway there...

Bicycles are wonderful things by the way. I weigh in the low 300's and ride mine regularly. I have a fairly lightweight aluminum Cannondale roadbike and it takes my pounding without complaint. Just make sure that your wheels are true and the spokes are properly tensioned (that is the one thing I've done, break spokes). Have someone give it a tune up, or you may find that getting a new one makes more sense. The newer ones shift so much nicer!!

Sorry, went off on a cycling tangent. I enjoy it a lot, one of the few exercises that doesn't hurt my ankles or knees.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. We'll check in with you. I look forward to reading your diary, once you post it.

Hi, all! Thanks for the well wishes, good advice & cycle tangents! :) Thinking in smaller increments will be good for my sanity. Also, I went to Costco today to look at their bikes (I remember seeing a cruiser there...) but they were closed. (I suppose it's a very good thing some retail places actually were closed on LABOR day!!)

Not sure if I mentioned the last time that I started training for a 5k with the Couch to 5k program. I'm not sure if I didn't stretch enough, stretch properly or am just entirely too out of shape, but my ankle has really been hurting me - even just regular walking. :( That is very unfortunate as I need to walk a lot in New York. Anyway, that's why I went looking to buy the bike today. (Your comments helped me decide on springing for a new one; hopefully I can find someplace to donate the old one or at least, have the parts recycled properly - no pun intended!)

I hope to start the food diary tomorrow. Considering it will be a very hectic day and I haven't planned, it will likely not be pretty, but if I just get in the habit of doing it (and planning), I'll be on the right track.

Keep sending good vibes/notes/well wishes my way. Best to all who are in the journey & those who have already made it.

Welcome ... 9 pounds is a GREAT start!

Good job! You've already lost almost a tenth of your goal! I would definitely recommend getting a FREE Fitday account. Just Google Fitday and you will find it. This has been the best help for me to stay accountable and on track. I used it for a long time and then stopped ... my weight ballooned because I wasn't being vigilant. I'm back on it now and vow to never stop. Also, be sure and get enough calories. I usually eat between 1500-1600 calories to lose weight and sometimes go up to 1800 calories (a girl's got to have cookies once in a while!).

I admire you for working on that 5K. At 50, that makes my knees hurt just thinking about it! Keep up the good work. I know you will be successful. :hurray:

Welcome aboard! When I started I was pretty much exactly where you started, i.e. 33 years old and 256lbs. I've lost 25lbs so far and while I can't really see much of a difference, I've lost some inches (only started measuring 2 weeks ago) and dropped a pants size.

You'll find some really good info and helpful people here.
