The metabolism is highly complex and is governed by hormonal systems that are equally complex. In fact, even our most learned scientists are not totally clear on the functions of the metabolism. So how could you be?

Metabolism varies from person to person. Some people have excellent metabolism, some people have terrible metabolism. One of my friend's from high school could literally eat 10 cheeseburgers in one sitting, and he would never gain a pound. So, once again, you are wrong. Medical issues, such as your functionality of metabolism, can play a HUGE part in determining your body size and weight, rendering you obese.
 
Ever heard of a THYROID Educator?? Ever heard of Leptin or Adiponectin? Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone? Can you tell us how these systems work with regard to our metabolism? Please do educate us!
 
What about Hypothyroidism? That slows the metabolism, it can always cause insulin resistance and other problems that keep a person retaining weight. Hypothyroidism IS NOT a result of being fat. -- Medical problem. Very Common. Hormone problem.

The fat gene, I already posted a link to it as well as informed you how to google. --- Medical problem. Rare, but is real.

Emotional and psychological issues can cause one to gain weight, because everyone handles everything differently. -- semi Medical problem, more so phsychological. More common than you'd believe.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrom, since you arn't a woman, I don't expect you to wrap your head around this. But it can cause insulin resistance, which in turn can cause a female to retain weight. It is a particular mutation of a gene when you are born in some cases. It is NOT formed because you are over weight, it makes it harder to lose weight. -- Medical Problem. Very common. Hormone problem.

Injuries, such as of a major part of the body. Back, spine, leg, etc. It can leave one with the inability to get out and exercise and some people, do pack on the pounds easier. -- Not so medical, but accidental and happens. Actually, any surgery in general.

Over eating, due to lack of information about nutrition. -- Common problem, but is usually saught out.

As far as skinny gluttons. They are very real. I have friends who weigh 90lbs soaking wet and they can eat and eat and eat. I have a buddy who is very skinny and lives off a diet of soda and fast food, all day long.

Did you know there are very healthy over weight people? Yup. Good blood pressure, good systems, good LDL and HDL levels, no insulin resistance.
 
Excellent post paperairplanes! Only thing I would disagree with you is that there are healthy overweight people. Overly full fat cells cause inflammation, which is very harmful for the body. Scientists are theorizing that most problems of aging, heart disease, etc are due to inflammation, so it is highly unhealthy to have any sort of inflammation including of the fat cells.

Oh I don't disagree with that. Being over weight is never healthy, but I was trying to point out that just because someones over weight, doesn't mean they're going to keel over and die at any minute just because theyre fat. lol [just like just because someones skinny, doesnt mean they're not a glutton :D]
 
The sad part is that there could be a lot of good information coming out if someone was, oh, educating instead of preaching.

It sounds great to say can't rather than won't, but what about the people who don't understand how to figure out what's full of calories and what's not? Of people who'd say, eat less if given some tips on how to eat fewer calories but be less hungry? If someone could say... post a video on how to measure their food correctly so they don't underestimate their caloric intake? (Oh wait, that's in a sticky on this site!) Or give them tips on what kinds of macronutrient intake they might want to shoot for to maximize muscle retention and minimize hunger.

Instead of just calling them 'gluttons' with the definition of glutton being anyone who's fat, rather than the connotation of people who eat even when they're not hungry, for the sheer enjoyment of eating, talk about the health risks of various appetite suppressants are and the tradeoffs for using them.

But hey, teaching people about nutrition is a lot harder than preaching about the laws of physics and how it's all their fault. And comes with less of a feeling of moral superiority for having the guts to tell those fat slobs how things really are.
 
Skinny glutton is an oxymoron. If you are a glutton it is not possible to be skinny. If you are fat it is because you are a glutton. There is only one way to get fat and that is through gluttony.

Skinny people don't eat immoderate amounts of food and drink.

Sorry to bust your pseudo scientific babble but the laws of physics namely the 2nd law of thermodynamics governs metabolism.

If this thread is not your cup of tea move on. I am not preaching any message. This is about WLS and the lunacy that drives people to do and the lunacy that drives people to get fat in the first place. I am sorry if you keep trying to derail it with your snide and rude remarks.

They know how to measure food and count calories. If they don't know it is because they don't want to know. They simply don't care.



I am not holding a physics ministry. If fat girls would keep their calories under 2000 and fat boys would keep their calories under 2500 they could NOT get fat or stay fat. That is not preaching that is a scientific certainty!

Well now it has become more than patently obvious of how little you know about the functions of the human body. You said in your other thread that all humans burn virtually the same number of calories and that was based on everyone having a temprerature of 98.6 degrees. Well did you know many people, including me, do not have body temperatures that high? My normal temperature for many months when I started tracking it was in the low 97s, and now it has elevated due to some supplements I'm taking to around 98.2 degrees during the day, but its always at 96.4 or so in the morning. You can look that up quite easily on the internet so that's just for starters. You clearly have no idea how cells work and how fat is burned. You know absolutely nothing at all on the topic actually, beside the very basics of eating less and moving more. The real cookie cutter obvious one. And you're so obnoxious about that one.. No wonder everyone on this board despises you :).
