So, ok. I have a bit of a problem.
I'm a 17 years old male, and the easiest way to describe myself is out of shape.
I'm 5'10.5 - 5'11 and my weight is a stable 140 lbs. It usually fluctuates between roughly 140-145, but stays within that range most of the time.
The problem is, I'm out of shape. I've been exercising on a daily basis for the past, lets say 4 years. Maybe 4 1/2. My physical body is thin, but there are areas of fat throughout my body, such as my side area, thighs, stomach and a bit on the chest. My main thing is jogging. It's something I've been doing for the past 4 years and continue it as much as possibly, usually 5-7 times a week, along with a shorter amount of cardio exercise, such as crunches and pushups, etc.
The problem is, I still can't get into shape. I use to think it was because of my obesity as a child (at age 12 I weighed roughly 165 lbs) but after nearly 5 years, I don't feel that I should still be struggling.
I like to think my diet is rather fair. I eat twice a day, drink low-fat milk about one time a week, don't consume cheese, red meat or pork, and consume little that is cooked in fat or butter. As well, my sugar intake is low, aside from fruit which I eat on a semi-daily basis.
Is there something I'm doing wrong here? Should I focus more on the cardio/body building workouts, and less on the jogging? Should I consume MORE protein?
My being out of shape isn't noticeable under clothing. In fact, most people find me to be very thin, but it is something I notice on my own time, and something that hinders me from a lot of things, such as relaxing at a pool or beach. I do have bad self image, and I realize it's something that I shouldn't have, but I'm also not so stupid as to do anything too extreme, like develop an eating disorder.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it. Thank you.
