I don't know much about discus but I assume it involves a turning motion in the body. So make sure you strengthen up the core area (lower back, Abs, Obliques) And the big lifts (bench, powerlift, Squat).

yea you do a 1 and a half turn inside a circle before you release. So shoulder press, deadlift, bench, rows?

If your going for strength to a search on Mark Rippetoes "Rippetoes Starting Strength Program". I have only been on it for 6 workouts and its working great.

Yes The main compound lifts are
Bench Press
Bent-over-Rows
Squats
Deadlifts
PowerCleans
Military Press

and make sure you work on your core
Planks, Side Planks, Crunches, Back Extensions, Side Crunches.

Any more info? I'm here to help. I did a little research on Discus...it looks kinda fun.

There's no specific exercise you can do that will make you better at throwing than throwing will.

However, exercises that will make you strong and fast enough to throw farther are all olympic lifts, good mornings, deadlifts, overhead presses, and squats.

I don't think benching is a big deal, but it doesn't hurt to be strong everywhere.
