Weight routine for the missus

Hi folks,
After recently starting a diet and fitness routine myself my missus has decided she would now like to join me and tone up a bit herself.. She's 30 years old and after having 4 children her body is a bit saggy in places mainly her tummy, thighs and bum... She's about 9 1/2 stone and she aint got much fat on her but like I said having the kids has basically made her a bit saggy and she'd like to tone up a bit.. I myself do weights regularly and she has said she'd like to do some herself but I aint sure what routine or sets etc. she should be doing.. I also have recently brought myself a treadmill and she is also gonna have a go on this too and her diet is reasonably good anyway so really any advice on a weight routine for a female would help..
any advice/help would be most appreciated

I reccommend she reads some of the girls' journals...there are a lot of good ones out there that post their workouts and they are doing really really well. Take a look at the stickies as well that are flying around, tons of info in there. I wish her all the best!

She should do the same workout you do.

WHy?

Women have the same muscles as men, and they move the same way...so why shouldn't they train the same way?

Weight training doesn't make women 'bulky' or 'manly looking'. Testosterone is what does that. As long as she's all woman under the hood, she can do squats, deadlifts, benchpress....all the same exercises we recommend to the men around here.

remember that 'toned' just means "body fat low enough to show off the existing muscle". it has nothing to do with 'doing lots of reps with low weights'. That builds endurance, not 'muscle tone'.

I know you didn't ask that, but I'm just assuming you'll read that misinformation somewhere, as its been perpetuated in the fitness industry for at least 40 years now.

I have heard and read good things about New Rules of Lifting for Women. I have done the mens program (essentially the same thing) and it was great.
