weight loss

I don't know the answer to your question, but I have the same problem. I worked so hard to lose 5 pounds, then I gained it back practically overnight when I went out to eat dinner and I have not been able to lose it for the past month!

It's common. I frequently shift around in weight, and find it's WAY easier to gain weight back. Just don't give up! Try to fit going out to eat and splurging on your favorite foods into your diet plan, while keeping the calories similar. That way, it's easier to manage these mandatory "binges." Eat only what you really like! Try splitting meals or ordering half portions or appetizer portions at restaurants. Also, look up the calories in restaurant dishes before going! After seeing the calories in your favorite chicken alfredo, you may not be so tempted anymore! Try ordering healthier and don't be afraid to make substitutions - ask for the chef to go light on the sauce, skip the butter on vegetables, replace mixed veggies for fries, grill your chicken instead, etc. And remember, don't beat yourself up if you get off track a bit - just keep trying!!!

This common weight gain is usually referred to as the “yo-yo” effect. You lose a few pounds, then gain them back – lose a few more only to gain those back as well.

The reason for this effect is actually quite simple.

In the process of attempting to rapidly lose weight, one might actually impair their metabolism. There are three main reasons why one might slow their metabolism:

1) A loss of muscle weight – muscle tissue is the most metabolically active tissue available in the body. A slight loss in muscle tissue will result in a slower metabolism. Even if you are exercising regularly, you will still lose muscle if you eating habits do not support your exercise routine.

2) Loss of water weight – Hydration levels play a huge role on how “active” your muscles cells are. A slight decrease in water weight can cause a huge reduction in your metabolism. The majority of your body weight is water weight, water loss is usually the fastest form of weight loss (and probably the least effective and most dangerous)

3) Over-training – Exercising too frequently and not eating enough can cause a negative effect on your metabolism as well.

I would forget about the actual amount of weight being lost or gained. Take before and after pictures frequently and use the way you look and feel as a reference point instead of the number a scale gives you. Body weight can fluctuate rapidly.

…and remember, don’t rush the process. Do everything in moderation and you should be fine.

I hope this was helpful

One thing I like to do when I got to a restaurant is to order a meal that is somewhat healthy (pasta or chicken or something) and take half of it home. Therefore you aren't binging all at a time and you actually have some left at home for when you get hungry. Making one 600 calorie meal into two 300 calorie meals can sure save you time to prepare something and it can help you lose your weight :)

good idea...you can also split with a friend.....you don't get the leftovers, but you still only eat half the calories.
