Hi, I'm Jojo. I'm 21, female, pushing 190lbs. I was 160 a year ago but over the last 5 months I gained 30lbs. The last ten just in the last month and half. I've never tried dieting. My weight has just gone up and down since I was 16. I never tried to control it. But this time, I'm at my biggest and my fear is that I'll hit the 200 mark. I also have a live in boyfriend who has been dropping weight like crazy, I hate that its so easy for him and I know its stupid but i cant stand the thought of him being fit and me being out of shape. So i would like help to improve my diet. I really dont know where to start. I am in college and my sleep schedule is a little messed up. I'm up at noon for class then in bed at 2am. I cook at my apartment and try to eat healthy but i need to do more. I'm hoping this summer to try the Insanity workout. I am determinded to get the weight off and keep it off. I want this more than anything else right now.

Hey honey, welcome to the forum! I'm 22 so near your age :D I'd recommend starting a diary in our diary section--log a typical days food/exercise and people can give you tips there. Try logging your calorie intake every day and try and keep with it--it's helpful to know exactly what you're putting into your body! Good luck and welcome again!

Hello jojo,

Here is something to think about. The mind is what controls what we eat. If you are having problems with weight then you should start with your mind. This is what I suggest.

Your post describes your problem in a way you may have never considered. Take a look at it and note how much of it concerns the act of comparison and time.

The basic action of the mind is to make comparisons. You do this when you walk across the room and don't hit anything and when you decide to eat something. When you eat you compare what its like to have it and not have it then chose. In your mind you have a collection of things you have accumulated over the years that you have come to think of as who you are. Student, female even the fluctuation of your weight defines who you are. All of these things are in your mind. The part of you that does the comparing wants that part of you that you see as yourself to stay the same so its job will be easier. It makes this happen by convincing you to value these things and not let them go. You have a picture of yourself in your mind of hitting the 200 mark. You may not want it but the part of you that compares does want it. Every time you think of hitting 200 you build up this image and make it more a part of you. The image of you at 200 is probably one of the strongest images in your mind. The first step to getting your weight under control is to fix the things in your mind.

The part of you that compares makes it hard for you to let go of things by using a number of methods. One of them is time. You live in a world of cause and effect and it is very real. That thing in your mind that compares uses this as a model to make that mental image of you stronger. Rather than just saying you gained some weight you mentioned how long it took and are worried how long it will take to reach 200. It created a dynamic vision of yourself that is extremely real. The thing is it is not real. Yes you gained weight but that is not who you are.

Believe it or not who you really are is something that is perfect. It is deep within you and never changes. It is the part that has unconditional love and bliss. It has no time because the love you have for something now has nothing to do with its past.

Look for that part of you and try to let it be the one that is in control of how you see yourself. I learned to do it and you can too
