Weight Loss Journey for Feeling Gooder

Yes getting to a goal is hard... I did so perfect until I got to my goal weight... now I've been stuck in a yo yo maintenance thing. Although I'm actually not at goal weight anymore because I gained some back I'm still close enough that I've been in a slack. Gotta jump back in there and realize maintenance isn't going to be so different than what it took to get to the goal. To maintain we need to do healthy for a lifestyle... we gotta keep pluggin along even after goal weight. So keep going Feelinggooder!

Good to hear the knee may be on the mend. Hopefully the vacation was a reboot to get you back in gear. Holidays make it tough, though. I've been invited to two after-work buffets, but I just can't do it. I know my weaknesses included tables full of fried food, and free beer.

Thanks all,

If the vacation didn't serve as a full reboot, it did serve as an excellent warning about how easy it would be to fall completely off track as it contained all the old elements that left me 65 pounds heavier last year. Winter is on its way so will be taking the bus to work more often which lets me enjoy 60 minutes of walking a few times a week.

Routines and phases. Ready to declare an end to this maintenance/up and down 5 pounds phase and start a renewed good routine phase. Have to revisit my first post and update my goals to better align with my rehab-the-knee phase.

So a bit of a good/bad/good sandwich in the past week:

Good: Was back down to 229.0 on Friday and putting the vacation week behind me.

Bad: Put in a rough weekend with a Christmas party, drinking and a few bad meals.

Good: Even though I was feeling really tired/recovering from the Christmas party I managed to put in a pathetic 5 minute session on the stationary bike yesterday.

Even though it was a very light session I'm planning to use it as a test of the knee and to keep gradually building up time/distance over the next week. Sometimes you have to put in small sessions to get some momentum going. Will be eating clean this week and see if I can erase some of the damage of the past weekend. Wasn't pretty when I got on the scale this morning but a couple days from now I should see how much of the weight gain was temporary.

It's been my experience that a one-day binge really doesn't hit the weight gain too hard. I hope so, I calculated an input of 1600 calories from drinking on Saturday night, not to mention everything else. I'm still rocking my smaller jeans, though.

Keeping good thought ray beams shooting towards your knee!

Yeah, the drinking calories paled in comparison to the associated snacking that went with it but back down to within a few pounds of where I was last Friday now.

Thanks for the good thought ray beams, so far the knee is standing up to the light exercise on the bike. I didn't make time to get back on the bike yesterday as I left the house at 6am and didn't get back til past midnight. Work/life balance, I am not feeling you today...

Attempting to bounce back from the bad weeks. Did another 10 minutes on the bike last night and walked to work today. Will see how it all goes by Sunday morning.

Hey feeling goodr, don't beat yourself up too bad...you are giving your knee a chance to heal and even thou you don't like it, you gotta do it slow! We all want quick results..whether it is in healing or fitness or weighloss(she says to herself, practice what you preach woman) take it one day at a time, focus on the things you can control right now (like what you put in your mouth!) and take it back to basics during the holidays...don't deprive yourself (I'm actually thinking of having some dark chocolate) and don't under eat (it always leads to over eating ) and most of all, know we're here for you!

Sarah

Well done getting in some exercise, even if it is only 10 minutes is still makes a difference.

Thanks Sarah, Trusylver and Mystic,

Small changes are helping but I don't think they'll immediately erase the effects of last week's Christmas party weekend but long term that makes little difference.

The 5 and 10 minute bike sessions were good this week and didn't mess up the knee so I will gradually add more time/distance/resistance. Also getting in my fair share of walking again which will also help.

I've been reading "A Life Without Limits" by Chrissie Wellington and found a great quote that's worth sharing (and adding to my signature block)

Patience is key. We should never be in such a rush to achieve our goals that we are not willing to take the small steps needed to reach them.

Wow, that was rough.... Definitely over indulged over the holidays and saw weight crest back at 245.8 on New Year's day. Already have seen weight stablilize down a few pounds this week but still looking at a 10 pound gain over the holidays. Clothes is starting to feel tight again but back at it once again.

Want to lose 10 pounds fast... no problem just put on 15 first

Good to have you back.

One of the best parts about losing a bunch of weight is that even if you have a setback, you still are way ahead on the progress. Like climbing a mountain for 1000 feet and then sliding back down 100, you're still at 900 feet. What you want to avoid is having your safety harness break and then go bouncing down the remaining 900 feet cracking your skull open along the way.

Wait, what was I talking about?

Thanks MrVee, I like the mountain climbing analogy and it did feel like sliding back down a mountain (made of turkey) over the holidays.

Between the overeating over the holidays, cleaning up the eating and engaging my entire body in a week long battle against a nasty cold I'm crazy down on the scale (-12.2 lbs) for the past week. Expecting my body to bounce back from the dehydration this week and regain a little weight but sticking with eating better and getting exercise.
