Weight Loss Journey for Feeling Gooder

I remember a long ago time back in Nineteen Hundred and Eighty Seven. When I would run 3 or 4 miles and if I didnt maintain a 8 minute mile pace I wasnt working hard enough.....sigh

Now I get out of breath running to fridge

Caught a few Mad TV episodes in years past and one of their recurring skits seems appropriate in times like this. Skit was called "lowered expectations" and is very applicable to trying to get back in shape.... At one point I could hit a six minute mile over short distances but now living with my lowered expectations, a 10 minute mile seems like a good first goal. Once that goal is achieved I'll start working on 9.5 then 9 minute miles.

A few years ago as I was training up for the 10 mile race I used to run a test mile occasionally and did manage to get back under a 7 minute mile but that's a ways off at this point but something to shoot for.

Deja vu... just checked my weight tracking spreadsheet from 2009 and kind of blown away by the numbers...

After 7 weeks into this journey, I'm less than 1% body fat and 1 lb off where I ended up 7 weeks into my 2009 trip.

Would be quite happy if the next 7 weeks will follow that same trend as that would put me at my 235 goal weight and 27% body fat....

The trick will be to break the 2009 trend after this next 7 weeks as that was the start of 9 weeks of bouncing around within 5 lbs of that point followed by no further reporting....

Spring and OUTDOOR jogging...wow, sounds like a dream! I can't wait to just be able to walk a few feet without getting snow all up in my socks or the bottom hems of my pants all wet.

What could we all be doing in 7 weeks? I could be riding a recumbent bike :)

Thought a bit more about it and think I will need to kick up the jogging and exercise if I want to follow my last trip down this path.

In 2009 I was getting fairly deep into my 10 mile run training by this point and covering a lot of ground every week with a couple of runs each week that lasted over an hour. Whether it's 7, 17 or 57 weeks doesn't make much difference at this point as long as I keep at it and don't stop working, I know I'll get there.

Found my old before and after photos from back then and looks pretty much in line with this trip. Will have to start taking weekly photos again once a catch up to the end of my progress from 3 years ago...

Caught my very first glimpse of a sub 250 weigh in this morning under absolute ideal conditions of waking up later than usual, not drinking or eating anything prior, and taking a morning BM. Just enough to tip the scales at 249.8 lbs. In university days we also used to mislabel 250 lbs as QT (for quarter tonne) which isn't accurate but ET for eighth of a tonne doesn't have the same ring to it...

Hey dude! You no longer take your life into your hands when you go up a 250lb limit ladder!!! (I hate those things)

I hear ya on the lowered expectations. I was walking on the track last night and feelin really good so I get this wild idea to run a bit....Not ready for that yet...Lowered expectations...But I did have a good walk

yeah, had a few of those lowered expectations days while walking to catch the bus...

Here's the scenario that kept replaying itself:

see a traffic light hand start flashing, start to jog in an attempt to catch it...

breath heavy, see the hand stop flashing

decide to stop and catch my breath while waiting for the next walk sign..

Not getting hit by a bus = priceless...

I only realized recently that I had been taking my chances on my ladder which I had been using to lug bundles of shingles onto the roof... Thought it seemed a bit bouncy.

In addition to the ladder I'm also now approaching the weight class of my treadmill which also has a 250 lb limit.

hahaha, I hate cross walks! I live in a town with zero of them, and no stop lights either, so going to the "big city" and having to abide by driving laws...drives me crazy...or...walks me crazy.

250lb limit on a treadmill? Leave it to some engineer somewhere to design a treadmill for those who don't need it.

We only have a flashing yellow light in the tiny town I live in. We are so small our zip code is a fraction. (rimshot)

Hey Feelinggooder,

Congratulations on making into the 240's! Great job, and you are so right...keeping up the progress is the key..7, 17 or 77 weeks, assuming we all continue to suck air will pass and it's our choice as to what we put in our mouth and move our bodies!

Keep it up...you're doing great my friend!

Sarah

Be careful in that traffic. it sounds like your getting exercise anyway. I think the weight you hit is a nice milestone. now you get to look forward to something even lower.

I'm not sure If I ever in my life did a mile in 10min. or less.... I haven't always been overweight, and did used to jog, but still not sure i ever could. I'm not even sure how fast I can do a mile. Jogging without stopping to walk is kinda new for me, sure I used to do it yrs ago, but recently its new again. I haven't tried timing myself and for a quick mile. I'll have to do it then I'll post.

Thanks everyone. Traffic really isn't all that bad and the red lights mean I get to take an occasional break from the walking.

My weight slipped back a fraction of a pound the rest of the week so my official weekly weigh in was at 250.2lbs. Will hold off on scratching off that milestone on the front of this post until next week.

Didn't quite hit the exercise goals for last week as I ended up not getting started soon enough. Going to retake last week's challenge going from Sun-Saturday and even if I have to spend the whole day next Saturday finishing it off I plan to hit all five of the goals. Also adding one more to the mix.

50k lbs lifted

300 lunges per leg

500 pushups

250 burpees

40 minutes of jogging on treadmill

Getting my 16 year old ready for district track meet in a month...He did a 5.54 mile last nigh...makes ya sick huh?

Yep, especially considering his average speed over that mile is what I use for my 30 second feel gooder sprint at the end of a treadmill session...
