Weight Loss Journey for Feeling Gooder

Im back...was home with a sick kid yesterday but she is better and at school today

Good job on the weigh in dude. 250s are only a few days away. I have just gone into the "lightest I have been in a long time" zone.....Its a good feeling but I want a lot more. I am re-thinking my new Feb goals and will post them on my thread soon.

Oldschool- I am totally on board with the quilt idea but I think I will not include old underwear in with the material. (ha)

Thanks for dropping by the diary and the encouragement 32, already making plans for coming months (now signed up for a 10k at the end of May) so will have to keep on keeping on if I want to be in shape in time. Also looking for a 5k in April as I have that listed as a goal.

Interesting idea to make a quilt out of the fabric... With all the checkered shirts I have it would probably be a pretty funky quilt too...

Time to get ready to lay a stomping on February, will soon be breaking past my 2011 low weight and no plans on falling off this train to skinny town!!

Got one added treat out of my wii fit yesterday, it appears that I weigh in 2 lbs less on the wii fit than I do on the scale in the bathroom. Was reading just under 261 on it this morning but will be using my bathroom scale for official weigh ins.

10K here you come!

I have a spring dream of gettin back to running. Of course it will be a stretch calling what I will do "running" maybe "chugging" "plodding" or "lumbering" would be better terms.

Found a few 5k runs scheduled for April so will soon have to make with the 'trudging'

Was tempted to sign up for a half marathon for all of 5 seconds until I realized that last year the 10k I ran in April was pretty demoralizing and possibly dangerous (still think my idea of adding a new category to races that measures your time per mile per pound would make an excellent olympic event) I mean if I double up on some skinny dude's weight I should only have to run the distance in double his time right?

Anywhooo, was feeling a little sore and run down last night so hardly got in any exercise other than the walking. Feeling gooder today and have been meaning to up my strength training. Managed to do a bit of weight training tonight and had to add a little weight to my inclined bench press as I was able to complete 3 sets of 15 reps. Also threw in a couple additional row type exercises and more situps tonight.

Wii is still complaining about my obese BMI but I did get my first glimpse of the 250s this morning when I weighed in at 259.8ish on the wii scale. Still a ways to go to reach an overweight BMI but really looking forward to the day the Wii starts calling me overweight instead of obese...

Hey feelinggooder,

I know the feeling on the BMI...I'm looking forward to the "overweight" category too (just doesn't sound right does it!?)

You are doing well on the runs...good job scheduleing them...commitment!!

You're doing great...keep up the good work!

Sarah

Thanks Oldschool, size32, Sarah and Brawny,

Think I posted a few comments on other diaries yesterday but forget to update my own.. Another solid day on the eating and managed to take the bus in every day this week which has meant 5 days of getting a minimum of 4 miles of walking done each day in addition to all the extra walking around the office, chasing my daughter. Energy levels have been a bit lower in the evenings and I'm really glad that it's now Friday.

Starting to incorporate more weight training but haven't been following any real plan so far. Have a copy of a previous plan I had followed when I had a gym membership but not sure how much I'd have to modify it to try doing it at home.

BMI is still above 33 and I know I'll likely never make it to normal range. When I calculate my lean body weight it's heavier than my ideal body weight so getting into the 'normal' range would mean getting down under 10% body fat. It would be nice to make it into the middle of the overweight rating at some point if only so I could stand on that blasted wii fit scale.

Plan the work, work the plan.

So today, one of the guys that used to jokingly poke fun at me realized that he's now very nearly the same size/weight as I am. It definitely felt gooder and provided a little extra motivation.

BMI is still above 33 and I know I'll likely never make it to normal range.

1. What is "normal" Who cares about normal? You are improving and thats what counts

2. Never say never

Cool deal on that smart mouthed buddy noticing that you are about his size now. Thats gotta feel good.

I hear ya, I did give myself a bit of an out with likely never vs never.

Overall I'm not concerned about BMI as it really doesn't take into account some important factors. Knowing that I'd need to either drop muscle mass or get down below 10% body fat to hit the BMI idea of normal is a pretty good indication to me that it isn't nearly as important as other factors such as body fat %, how my clothes fit and how quickly/easily I can move from point A to point B.

I am going to work towards a reasonable weight which would put me into the middle of the overweight category. As for the Wii and that high pitched female voice that continuously calls me obese I may have to figure out a way to open up the console and yank out her digital voicebox... I guess in the meantime it would be easier to change my height to 8' 10" or so...

I had a wii for a short time but I never got the wii fit. I didnt have the wii that long I bought it on a whim and never could get int the whole motion thing. when i play a game i like to sit down and play not jump around with my arms flailing like someone lit me on fire. However now that im trying to lose weight im thinking i should have kept it. maybe it would motivate me to move around more. the weight is coming off so slow from being so inactive. I got to get myself to the gym before to much time passes. every day is a day lost. Your lucky you are so motivated. Its hard to stay motivated when the only weight ive lost is water weight.

Lol FG, I have an xbox with a connect and I had to fire the female trainer on my fitness because I wanted to kill her. she was programed to be the biggest bitch ever. I think while I'm on staycation I'll pull the xbox out of my son's room and hook it up in the living room and play some dance games and the fitness game. Although, I hate seeing myself on the instant replay...ew.

As far as BMI goes, most professional generally accept that its a flawed form of measurement. there are better ways to measure body fat percentage and body composition. If you live in a city you might be able to find a company to do this for you.

Thanks oldschool,

Haven't attempted the dance games yet but other than the weigh in the wii fit has a few decent options for stretching and working up a sweat.

My bathroom scale is able to give me a rough estimate for body fat % which is one of the main stats I'm keeping an eye on as I go. The scale isn't super accurate but it doesn't involve getting dunked in water or pinched/prodded in multiple places just to let me know that I'm still fat :)

Once I make it close to my current goal weight of 235lbs I may actually go get a more accurate measurement taken so I can know whether or not to continue trying to lose weight. Last time I got down to the 230s my wife and a few others complained that I was actually getting too skinny but that might have been my skin starting to get loose as my scale still had me around 28% body fat at the time.

As expected the weight loss is slowing and I'm kind of relieved as this isn't a quick fix. Still logging a weight loss for the week so happy with the results.

Weight: 261.4 lbs Body Fat %: 34.0

Hope to hit the 250's by the end of next week and see some movement on the body fat %.

Updated my spreadsheet and looks like I'm now under 90 lbs of fat...

Hey feelinggooder,

Congratulations on the progress! You are right..it's not a quick fix! I've been at this journey for 8+ months now and I've lost a little over 70 pounds...it went faster at the beginning and now a little slower...but keeping at it and it keeps coming off...sometimes faster sometimes slower...the key is consistency and persistency...keep those 2 attitudes and attributes and I'm convinced it will happen...at least it has for me!

Keep up the good work!

Sarah

Wow you are the poster boy for the first six weeks! I bet people are noticing.

You are about to have made enough fitness progress to ramp up your exercise and tolerate it well.

Just think in another month it should warm up some and your fitness routine has all kinds of new possibilities.

Lets push through Feb!

to be able to pull off 10 pounds in a week is incredible. if you can do it thats great. the fat is just melting away. I wish I could do that.
