*takes Brawny's man card, rips in half*

If it was really salty food and you're not used to eating that much sodium I would venture to guess you are just holding onto water. Pound a 100 oz of water today and pee it off man.

Imagine the sodium content had a lot to do with it and have been pounding back water to get back to a normal level of salt content. *runs to urinal*

I was used to the high sodium content but the past few weeks I've been watching the salt content so it probably was quite a shock to the system.

And Brawny, :iagree: and in fact I'm going to take the remaining two halves of your man card and reduce them to quarters for even knowing that those are lyrics from a Miley Cyrus song...

On a positive note, I get to add my exercise type chores to my routine as my new woodstove is finally in place and certified safe for use... I see arm curls upon arm curls of firewood in my future. Added to some axe swinging to make splits... huzzah!!! :hurray::hurray:

In my defense I do have a ten year old daughter. A few months ago she played that over and over...

He picks up the peices of his man card and tapes them back...WITH DUCT TAPE (very manly)

So this is what I have to look forward to after my daughter's princess phase is over? FML

At least I will be able to stop playing with Barbie and Ken dolls super manly action figures....

You both have it easy. My 10 year old son listens to Justin Beiber and will never even own a man card. I keep telling him its JUSTINA Beiber and he practically cries he's so mad at me.

Our house is blessedly Bieber free for now. Hopefully Bieber will be too old and maybe be in on one of those dark Macauley Culkin phases by the time my daughter is old enough to notice although I'm sure there's going to be someone else out there to take his place...

Three days of push-ups/sit ups. Starting to get a little easier to do them now although fitting them into an evening rather than spreading them out over an entire day took a little more effort.

Looking forward to the day when it takes less that 5 sets to get to 50 pushups.... of course last week ten reps were enough of a challenge.

Daughter once again provided an extra 37 lbs of weight to one set of 5 at the end. That extra weight really makes a difference.

Day one of taking the bus to work so will get the first 6 kms of walking done today vs the 0 km it takes when I drive the whole way. Still haven't planned or done a dedicated strength training session that I have listed as a goal for the week.

You are doing a good job.

The sit ups and push ups will prep you for increased strenth training.

How is your eating going?

Also I stooped to Miley Cyrus quotes but Im out on the JB talk (I refuse to even type that panty waste's name)

I will admit that my 13 year old son has the hots for Victoria Justice

Thanks Brawny,

I've never heard of VJ. She hasn't shown up on the cartoon network, treehouse or the disney channel any time I've been watching at least.

The eating is still going well, still having a little trouble getting the servings of veggies I need but I'm continuing to look for good sources. I've found a low sodium veggie juice which isn't an ideal way to get my daily servings and some veggie burger patties and even have resorted to putting spinach and arigula into smoothies. Have also discovered that snap peas aren't bad as a snack food.

Apart from a overly salty meal on Sunday it's been pretty easy to stick to smaller meals and as long as I manage to do the prep work in advance on Sunday and Wednesday nights, putting together the days meals is working out well. Started trying to go slightly longer between meals from time to time and fill in the gaps with a healthy snack.

Hoping to get down another 4 lbs from my Sunday morning weigh in by the end of the month to round out the month at 30lbs lost and hit my next goal of 265lbs. Think as long as I stick to the plan, I should get pretty close to those numbers.

So I've liberated a few ideas for weekly challenges from another site and am planning to incorporate at least two of these a week into my routine for the next month or so. Some I may turn into monthly or longer challenges as it'll give me one more thing to track progress against.

Pushups

Run X miles

walk X miles

lose x lbs

lose x % body fat

bike X miles

Swim X miles

do X pullups

do X burpees

do X crunches

X miles on Elliptical

bench press, curl or other X tonnes (total pounds x reps x sets)

This week's goals were 50 pushups and situps a day along with walking 18 km. I think I'm going to up the total pushups/situps to 400 (still thinking of making it 500 but already three days gone and only have working days left.)

VJ is on nickelodeun (Im sure I spelled that wrong)

Wow are those the goals you set on the site oldschool showed us? Dang I just did 3. Maybe I should ramp it up

Hey Brawny, those are a list of goals that I'm going to cycle through over the next little while. Only put three rules on the site oldschool mentioned but not sure whether I'm going to track them there. I think I may end preferring to keep tracking everything in within this thread instead.

Definitely an interesting idea and interface on the site but not sure I want to divide my attention to another site.

if you go over 3 goals on http://healthmonth.com/users/login you have to PAY $5! I'm sticking with three and being a cheapskate!

wow you guys are scaring me... I have two daughters, 18 mo and 3mo...."Justin Beiber " * rocks in corner* Make it stoppppppp

Tob: Still a few years away for both of us. Not looking forward to that day and hoping the Belieber nation has crumbled by then...

Diet and exercise coming along well. Managed to get in 95 pushups and 75 situps yesterday.

Weekly total (Sat-Fri)

Push-ups: 245 Sit-ups: 225

Three days left to get the remaining 255/275 to hit my 500 goal, have a feeling I know how I'll need to be spending Friday night.

95 pushups! All at once or spread out over the day? I think there is a program, much like C25K for doing 100 push ups, I have a facebook friend who was doing something like that.

Hey Oldschool,

Pushups were spaced out over the entire day and didn't include me doing any more than 15 in a row. I found a 100 pushups training program that's supposed to last six weeks, think I might start in on it soon. Also found programs for 200 situps, 150 tricep dips and 200 squats. Figure the more of this things I can find and incorporate into my training program the better. They all seem to recommend doing the exercises every second day so maybe I'll alternate and try to do two of them on alternating days.

Won't be pairing pushups and dips together as both would kill my arms. Trying to figure out if situps or squats would pair better with pushups.

My last day of college football I swore a personal oath that I would never do another squat....there is one goal I have reached.

You are really getting it done.

I know my progress will be slower. I plan on adding some strength stuff in Feb.

I've read that if you do nothing else all day, 30 squats will do. Apparently it works the largest muscle group in your body. A few years ago I was dieting and losing about 2 lbs a week, I bumped it up to 3.5 by adding sit-ups and squats daily without changing anything else.

And now a brawny story from yesteryear

In those days they had us doing the University of Nebraska weight workout. Very high weight and low reps. My gosh I think I was squatting something like 650lbs for 3 reps in this cage thing because sometimes guys would pass out. I also saw a guy blow out a vein in his neck from the strain. I know there are better squat sets than that but as for me I will do a sled or something else.

Well I am up at work late I guess I better do a bit of work...POOF

And now for a late night disjointed jumble of thoughts....

The programs for squats, situps etc all look kind of interesting. I have never been particularly good at any of these exercises so a chance to get to some respectable number in each would be an accomplishment.

650 lbs on a squat is an insane amount of weight to be throwing around and watching some guy bust a vein is quite a warning against doing any squats with heavy weight in the future. Congrats on keeping that oath. All the exercises I plan on attempting are purely bodyweight exercises which is more than enough weight to cause me trouble at this point.

I definitely believe the exercises can make quite a bit of difference to an overall strategy for weight loss. Last time I went through this I found combining diet, cardio and strength training helped keep the weight coming off.

An interesting experiment to attempt: Any time I feel like grabbing a snack I'll do a set of crunches or pushups and then go to the fridge. I'm betting the result will be that I'll start picking out the healthier choices as a result.

From my rough calculations I seem to be losing both body fat as well as some lean muscle mass so adding in some strength exercises will hopefully help maintain my lean body mass and help burn calories as well.

Did another 105 pushups tonight and 100 crunches (realized I had been doing situps the old wrong way)

350 pushups / 325 crunches 2 days left for my 500/500 week.
