Weight loss diet

Hi,

What type of diet should I be taking If I wanted to loose a few lbs would I need high carb/low carb, high protein/low protein diet.

Thanks,

Kirk.

Hello Kirk,

For fat loss it's usually recommended doing a diet high in protein, and a bit lower in carbs and fat.

But if you work out hard as well, you should make sure to also get enough carbs, especially in your post workout meal.

But another important factor is how many calories you eat a day. Could you give some info regarding your weight and height? Are you working out? Lifting weights and doing high intensity interval training is very beneficial for weight loss, and often necessary to lose those last few pounds.

It is also important to go for lean sources of protein (chicken, turkey, tuna, eggs, salmon, lean beef, cottage cheese), complex carbs (whole grain bread and rice, oatmeal, lots of vegetables, beans, some fruit etc) and healthy fat (almonds and other unprocessed nuts, salmon, eggs)

Thanks alot for your reply, In reponse to your reply I am 6'1 and weigh 175lbs I am far from being overweight I think however I wanted to get a bit leaner and cut up before I bulk up. Yes I am training I a 3 day split on muscles and run 20 - 30 minutes after my weight trainning and I have also started my healthy diet thanks to you. I have been eatting alot of chicken, salad fruit a few potatoes and brazil nuts and almonds.

Nice :)

When you work out to lose body fat (get leaner) before you start bulking, you might want to consider doing full body workouts with compound exercises instead of a split routine. Split routines are usually better for bulking, while full body compound workouts are great for losing fat.

Good thing you do cardio as well. I personally love doing high intensity interval training (HIIT), as this is great for fat loss without losing too much muscle as you go.

According to your height and weight your daily calorie intake when cutting should be approximately 2200-2300 calories. These numbers are only guidelines, but they usually give you a good estimate as to approximately how much to eat. You should simply adjust the number a little bit if necessary.

Good luck :)

If you want to lose some weight, it's better to have a low carb & protein rich diet. I don’t prefer to count calories; I leave it on the experts. There are some really good natural-diet programs available in the market. I've been using Bistro MD for 3 months and it has worked really well. It's low on calories yet it is nutritious (as it fullfills the body needs so one doesn't feel starved) They deliver it to my place and it tastes nice as well.
