Weight Lifting Competition

A guy at my gym today strongly suggested I enter a bench contest due to my strength to weight ratio. I weigh 148 lbs and can bench 250. Deadlift 445. What would be some rough estimates of other kids at my age (17) and weight?

It really depends. Kids and the lifts they put up vary by year. Your lifts are pretty good but a standard weight lifting meet is bench press and clean & jerk just so you know.

That is last years high school finals in florida, weight class 154lb. Just an idea, and remember that the guy who won is the state champ so thats the high end of the spectrum.

2007-2008, My sophomore, I was in the 148's and I was about middle of the pack with a 370 squat and a 380 deadlift, low on the scale with my 180 bench. But the top guys in my region for 148.5 weight class tied at 1210 lbs total. Thats a 450 squat, 450 deadlift, and a 310 bench. That is the top of the top though, and those guys beat out the strongest in the 164's and the 181's.

You would be very high middle or close to the top. Remember, squat and deadlift are your friends in these competitions.
