weak grip

when i train back, the limiting factor is sometimes my grip, especially in my left hand. I was doing lat pulldowns today and my left hand would not stay closed, it was hard to hold on to the cable. I didn't feel like my back was fatigued, I could have done more if my hand didn't fail me. It's happened to me before doing bent over DB rows.

Has anyone else experienced this? What causes it? My best guess was forearm strength .... any opinions??

I have a similar problem when I do stiff-legged deadlifts with dumbbells. Dunno, maybe I'm not grabbing those dumbbells right.

If you keep at it, your grip will get better as you get stronger. Some gloves may help, but more importantly is just sticking to it.

ya it takes a little getting used to, One thing that really helps is they make this fabric that goes around your wrist, then around the actual wieght. It's sold at any sporting goods store pretty much, and It helps alot more than you probably think it would. However this would cause you to not use your forarm much at all but it sounds like your not wanting to use these exercises for forearm workouts anyway. Heres a pic of what I'm talking about.

I don't use these because I'd lose them, but I've used them before and they work wonders for grip.

You can also use wide (fat) bars (Large diameter) for execises like upright rows, or do pull ups using a towel or some lengths of thick rope.
