Water Weight

Hey everybody, I just started a diet about a week ago been limiting my calories to about 1200 - 1500 a day and quit eating fatty foods like chips and all that and also started doing cardio and weights. ive did cardio for about 4 days of the week (started doing it a couple days into the diet) did some joging and cardio on my eliptical machine i did 40 minutes yesterday and 1 hour today. Ive lost 4 and a half pounds i was 231 now im 226.5 i weigh myself in the morning after going to the bathroom but a friend of mine said it could just be water weight so i was wondering do you guys think its water weight how can you tell? And how many calories and fat should i be eating a day? Im 21 years old if that makes a diffrence. Thanks in advance for any help

Also i loose about a half of a pound a day or a little more so that means it cant be water weight doesnt it? Would think it would all be in one day if its water weight.

first thing you do is up your calories, now! Keep eating like that, you'll go into starvation mode, won't lose any fat, and actually lose muscle. eat 2600-2800 a day to lose .5 lbs a week. The first few weeks you should drop a bunch of weight. This is a mix between water weight and fat loss. Don't pay attention to your scale, use how your clothes fit and a waist measurement to guage your progress. Throw some strength training in the mix to help further your results.

ok i found out for fat burning you should eat 0.4 times your weight so i should eat 90.6 grams of fat a day but do i need to recalculate this everytime i loose weight? Thanks

That sounds about right. Yes you should recalculate as you lose weight, maybe every 6-7 lbs or so.

I think of it as a percentage split 40 % of my calories come from protein, 40 % from carbs, 20 % from fat.

Thanks again Allen, One more thing, Should i be eating any saturated fat at all? I noticed peanut butter has like 2.5 grams of it.

You should limit saturated fat as much as possible yes. Try the all natural peanut butter. I believe (don't quote me on this) that its lower or void of saturated. ON the other hand though, I look at that 9 grams of protein per tablespoon and start salivating. 9 grams of protein vs. 2.5 grams sat. fat seems like a pretty good tradeoff to me. While its important to avoid saturated fat, a little bit of it isn't totally fatal to your plans.

natty peanut butter is so damn good. throw it on some bread with some natty jam oooohhh so good, saturated fat is just terrible for you not only that the name just sounds like its bad for you. not 100% sure but i think your body turns saturated fat straight into body fat. just go get some natty stuff its way better for you.
