I'm pretty much new to the gym and am hoping to simply be fit and healthy. I have been doing cardio since I joined, which I enjoy quite a bit. I do up to an hour approx 5 times a week. I have read HIIT is the best way to do it so I plan on starting that next week. However, I have read that cardio has to be supplemented by weight training in order to optimize my workout. I'm basically just looking to shed fat. I'm a member of a very small gym and the dumbbell area is always in use so is it okay to just leave those out and stick to the machines? These machines are alien to me so I have no idea what to do! Heres a full list of the equipment at my gym:
High pulley machine
multi hip machine
seated chest & tricep press machine
Pectoral Fly machine
leg extension machine
shoulder press machine
suspine leg curl machine
rowing machine
All I'm looking for is a simple effective routine using some of those machines. I've got quite a bit of time on my hands at the moment so time really isn't an issue. Should I do cardio and weight training on separate days - or should I do both in one day (if so which do I do first). I'm completely new to lifting weights (so fairly weak), so I'm not entirely sure how hard I'm meant to push myself. Should it feel like the first set of a given exercise is moderately difficult - and the last almost impossible? I have taken a look at the stickies and I know these kind of posts irritate people, but if some kind soul can give me some advice I would be very grateful.
