"Weightloss is a marathon not a sprint"!

Good evening everyone!

I hope that all is well!

I'm a swedish student who wishes to loose a couple of pounds until next summer.

I'm currently weighing 111.5 kg and my goal is to weigh 10 kg in December.
During the coming year I wish to weigh around 90 kg on the 1 of June and around 80 kg December 2015.

My current routine will look like the following:

Diet:
*Drink plenty of water before any kind of food.
*Eat on smaller plates to reduce portionsize.
*Eat a mainly High Protein Diet with vegetables. Also 1 Slice of bread + 1 piece of fruit per day to keep the carbs moderate which will help with mood and to spare the muscle.

Excercise:
Go to the gym 5 days a week and do :
*45 min walking on the machine with 4.5 set as speed. Equals around 450 Kcal. (Might up it soon)
*Do light strenght excercises with the machines. Equals around 100-200 Kcal.
*Bike for 200 kcal.

Hobbies:
*Focus on reading more books to keep me occupied when I feel cravings.

I will be updating my journal daily :-D

I thank you for following my diary and I wish all of you the best of luck on your own journeys!

Hey Viking, welcome to the forum! I think your plans sound realistic (how tall are you if I can be so curious?) and I´m looking forward to reading more from you. By the way: are you planning to cut out all carbs except for one piece of fruit a day? Or is it just fruit you want to restrict because of the simple sugars? Cut out carbs alltogether and your body will start breaking down muscle tissue in order to feed the brain (which cannot use fat as a source of energy).

Best of luck!
LaMaria

Hi LaMaria and thanks for the response! :)

I'm not planning on cutting out all the carbs from my diet, it is just that I'm trying to favor protein and vitamin rich nutrients.
I've done LCHF/Akins before, but I felt lethargic from it and its not something that I will be doing again.
This article changed my mind about the whole Low-carb approach: http://www.precisionnutrition.com/low-carb-diets

I will add some bread to the diet as well to increase the amount of carbs.

As for the height I'm 188 cm tall (about 6 feet 2 inches in your measurements).

Update for today:
Went to the gym and did 45 min walking on the threadmill at 4,5 pace followed by going through all the machines with light weights and ending it with a 200 kcal bike run. Afterwards I felt absolutely great!

When I came home I ate with my family potato sallad, some red meat and sallad. And since it's friday we made some snacks also from fresh vegetables and accompanied it with som home made dip made from sour cream.

All the best!

Hi Viking & welcome to the forum. Your goals sound very achievable & your approach to reaching them seems positive & healthy. You should find the WLF forum a supportive environment. It helps to keep a diary & I used to find that it kept me focussed & away from the pantry. What sort of books do you like? I love reading! Cheers, Cate.

You´re off to a great start, glad you enjoyed the workout! Good to hear you´re not too heavily anti-carb, I really think balancing things for your individual needs is key.

Thanks for the welcoming dear Cate!

I love to read books about finance and investments since it's one of my biggest passions. I also like to read books about coaching since I like to help people.

What kind of books do you like?

All the best!

Todays update:

*45 min Walk on Threadmilll = 450 Kcal
*Lighter strenght training = 200-300 kcal
*Bicycle for 200 kcal.

Wow, today it was really sunny and warm here in Sweden, the staff at the gym had forgotten to put on the ventilation and it was about 40 degrees celcius inside and the air were so bad. If this continous I will have to change gym.

Todays update:

Breakfast: 2 Slices of Swedish Knäckebröd with cheese.
Lunch: Nothing
Dinner: Rice with meat and peanuts
Evening snack: 2 Slices of bread with sliced sausage.

Perhaps I should replace the breakfast and the evening snacks with fruit instead of bread.
It's not that I consider that bread is a magic food that will turn someone fat, it's just that I don't really like the "headache" that I get afterwards from eating it.

Edit: No more bread for me thanks!

Besides fruit is richer in minerals, vitamins and antioxidants(cancer prevention) and should perhaps be prioritized.

I'll try the following scheme:
Breakfast: 1 Piece of fruit + 2 Glasses of Water
Lunch: Nothing or sallad
Dinner: Meat + Natural Carbs coming from ex: Potatoes or Rice (no processed junk!) + Vegetables
Evening snack: 1 Piece of fruit + 2 Glasses of Water

Todays workout:
*45 min Walk on Threadmilll = 450 Kcal
*Lighter strenght training = 200-300 kcal
*Bicycle for 200 kcal.

The Gym went great today and I felt stronger with more clear thinking than I've had in ages! Just going to the gym everyday has made an awesome impact on both my physical health and mental focus.
I really recommend it to all of you(in the right doses of course)! :)

Daily exercise is great! I´m glad you´re feeling good about it too. Are you sure you´re eating enough? If you eat a large apple for breakfast (~120 kcal) and lean meat with veggies and brown rice or potatoes for dinner then even when you eat twice the amount I can manage you´re not even up to 1000 kcal a day, which is very little for an adult, let alone an adult male who is physically active. Am I missing something?
Love to hear how you´re keeping up!

Thanks for the checkup LaMaria! I really appreciate it since I have tendencies of going to extreme on things! :)

I eat plenty at dinner, my mom makes a lot of food(A lot of meat and carbs as well as sallad) and I usually eat two bigger portions to really fill me up for the evening. But your right, I should perhaps have up the kcal intake by eating 2-3 fruits in the evening.

Improved my gym routine today:
Todays workout:
*45 min Walk on Threadmilll = 450 Kcal
*Lighter strenght training = 200-300 kcal
*Bicycle for 2 x 200 kcal.

All the best!

Fruit in the evening is one solution (my stomach doesn´t like it much because fruits digest so easily and then want to get out again quickly, but not every stomach is rebellious), but why don´t you eat more of it in the morning/at lunch to give you energy for the day? Are you following a specific principle?

If I eat too much before excercise I feel sick and get a stressed stomach, so I try to eat later in the day or in the evening.
I do however not limit myself to eat fruits or sallads for lunch. I follow my body and eat whenever I feel hungry :)
Another thing I also do is to drink plenty of water, if anyone of you are having problems with cravings I challenge you to drink more water to cure your headaches and hunger.

All the best!

:) Sounds a lot better. I`m a great drinker (of water) too, it doesn´t stop all evil but it helps with many things. You´re doing great, keep it up!

Thanks for the reply Maria, I'm glad that you also like to drink a lot of water :)
What are your milestones from now on?

Todays gym routine was changed since I feel that 2 x 200 kcal on the bike was to much:
Todays workout:
*45 min Walk on Threadmilll = 450 Kcal
*Lighter strenght training = 200-300 kcal
*Bicycle for 200 kcal.

Milestones... Let´s see:
- 80 kg
- fitting into a certain ancient pair of jeans (probably at 77 kg)
- being able to do a perfect pull-up (no idea when that´ll be, depends on both weight and strength).

What are your goals? Apart from hitting 100 kg?

That's great milestones! What kind of deadlines do you have? :)

Update for today:
Went with my family to the shores of Båstad and climbed cliffs for about 4 hours, was a really good excercise! Tomorrow will be a rest day for sure!

Want to get under 80 kg by mid-august, and fit into my jeans properly by my next birthday (early september), ideally I would have enough strength for a proper pull-up by then too. But I´m not focussing on time too much, right now I´m struggling a bit but that´ll pass and then I WILL get to where I want to be.

Climbing cliffs sounds like my kind of exercise! Great all-over strength training. Enjoy your rest day, your body earned it.

You've got good deadlines! You will for sure be able to do a perfect pull-up by then(just remember to do some negative reps, they work wonders!) :)

If you feel that your struggling I would recommend you to go to youtube and watch some inspiring videos, here are some of my favorites:
*He really incarnates Willpower!
*Watch whenever you feel REALLY down or struggling hard!

Todays update:
A restday, my little brother and I went for a short swim in the ocean since we were feeling bored and the rest of the day was spent on video games.
I feel super prepared for the week to come and I hope all of you do! :)

Sounds great! Swimming is wonderful and doing things with siblings is always worthwile (easy for me to say, mine are awfully far away). Thanks for the links, I´ll probably be needing them before the week ends...

Where does your siblings live? On the other side of the planet? :-D

Todays update:
*45 min Walk on Threadmilll = 500 Kcal (Upped this since I feel that I need a bit more challenge).
*Lighter strenght training = 200-300 kcal
*Bicycle for 200 kcal.

I will switch the bicycle for the rowing machine instead from now on.

:) It feels like it sometimes! In fact they´re just a couple of countries away, but that´s far enough to not see them more than three or four times a year.

Yay for the upped treadmill and the rowing machine! If it´s your first time on a rowing machine: be careful, I usually see guys tear at the thing like they want to break it (at maximum resistance, too) and then rush forward again like maniacs and that´s pretty bad for their backs and shoulders (and no, I don´t get involved, I´m not their mom). But if you treat it decently it´s absolutely great exercise.
