Video of me PWR snatch. Critique please

I try my best to keep form good with only what i can get from the net. Oly lifting aint a big sport in Norway and i have to travel really far to get to a place where they have coaches for it.

Can the people who know about oly lifting please critique my form? tips, pointers? I always only dip as far under the bar as needed, but i keep it above quarter squat so its a power snatch not a full snatch. Should i try to catch it in a quarter squat position even if the weight allows me to pull it higher? (like in that vid)

Hmmm. This is an interesting test. You definitely need to go faster. You are doing more of a muscle snatch than a power snatch.

Work on keeping your low back tighter, and snap your hips just after the bar gets past your knees. Looks like you are waiting to get to about mid thigh.

Your shoulders are rounded a bit. When you set up, grip the bar, then flex your back tight, and flex your shoulders back (squeeze your shoulder blades back.) You are losing a lot of power through excess shoulder movement, and movement in your core.

The ability to snatch has everything to do with your back (As does every other exercise there is.)

This is my initial reaction. I will look again later to see if I can spot anything else.

Guys, could you give me a link to a site which can give me some more info on oly lifting. Karky has inspired me. Btw mate, how heavy is that?

thanks alot. I noticed when i watched the video that i was a bit slow.
How fast you go, isent that kind of dictated by the weight? Do you think i should go faster off the floor? It seems i go pretty slow, then kind of stop before the real pull..

and i think its 57.5 kilos or something like that. Not a whole lot :p

Not with the Olympic lifts. The heavier you go the faster it has to be. Or you will miss the lift. These don't really work like other lifts since they are based on power and momentum.

Do you think i should go faster off the floor?

No. It does not really matter how fast you are off the floor. Some people try to be fast from the floor, but the bar slows down too soon. Bar speed needs to be fastest past the knee. So lift controlled off the floor, then SNAP, right when you get past the knee.

You want to avoid the stop. Think like you are shifting into high gear. Moving up, then an explosive burst of speed. I really think that once you get your core stronger you will better transfer power from your hips. Get a lot tighter.

I agree with goergon1, your back rounded a bit. And you need more of an explosion toward the beginning of the movement. Not necessarily 100%, but the more speed you develop earlier in the movement the more momentum you'll have later.

thanks alot for the comments guys! Ill work on it.

Also, do you think i start with my hip too high or..? I see alot of people starting with it alot lower, but i also see people start with it high, like i do. I guess its an individual thing?

You don't actually look that tall.

Well I wasn't gonna comment on this thread, since I know nothing of the lift karky is doing (but on youtube there were some great deadlift videos and such from the same page, so thanks K). But the only thing I took out of Karky's video was "My gosh, are you freakin tall!" :D
