Very Fat Stomach

I am 33 and weigh 220 pds and am 5ft. I realize I have a significant amount of weight to lose and am working on one part of my body at a time.
Currently I am doing crunches and my question is, Once the muscle starts building and I lose weight. Will the flab of my stomach disappear or will I need to get an operation? Is their anyway or any exercise I can do to fix this situation?

You need to focus on overall fitness and fat loss. I am assuming you are female by your sig, but the things we hate the most tend to be the last to go, regardless of the "targeted" exercise. Fat loss is the key to a better abdominal region. As far as needing surgery goes that depends on speed of weight loss and elasticity of the skin. Best of luck on your journey.

You cannot spot reduce fat. doing crunches will not bring off fat from the stomach. Crunches are a fairly low neergy exercise and as such you will see very little, if any progress doing them. You should try to do some cardio and weight training in the form of full body workouts.

The most important tihng to remmeber about losing fat is that you need a deficit diet.

As just mentioned, you can't spot reduce fat. Dping crunches alone will do virtually nothing... sorry. You need to eat a clean diet and try to get into some high intensity training routine.

You mentioned you have a very large stomache, and it's fantastic your making the effort to get healthy. Before you worry about what your stomache will look like after you lose the fat, you should lose the fat. One step at a time, and reaching small goals one after another is the way to stay motivated. measure your stomache around your belly-button (don't worry, that number will be kept secret). Try to start getting that number lower, and lower, and lower until your at a point your happy with yourself. if at that point you have excess skin issues come back then.

Good luck!
