Don't know if this is the right place to suggest it but does anyone think having a section for selling/trading equipment would be a good idea. I've seen it work well on a hifi forum. It could be moderated well and would enable those of us that haven't got loads of money to help each other out if we are upgrading.

It could be a good idea but there might not be enough traffic. I personally have never bought fitness equipment but if i wanted to pick up something on the cheap, i would go to ebay and buy from a reputed seller. Ebay also has some protection, dispute handling etc. How would disputes be handled here?
Well the likelihood is that people would be picking up the equipment so in a sense its only like placing a classified ad so it shoudn't need much in the way of dispute handling. And you could have reputation points too.
Or another idea I had. The money could be sent to a moderator who would then send it on after the items had arrived. If the terms and conditions stated that the sender used insurance there would be no probs. The moderator could receive a reasonable percentage for his trouble and if there were disputes the parties would have to accept his decision.
