Im really frustrated right now! I calculated that my caloric needs are based on a 3000 calorie a day diet. I only eat about 1000 to 1500 a day which i know is an averaged of losing 3 to 4 pounds in a week which is not good, but i dont like to eat much so oh well. Ive been noticing that i am putting on pounds instead of losing them, I was wondering if this is from drinking a lot of liquids, which i do because i love water. Are these liquids putting the weight on or is there something wrong?

EDIT: Oh and about physical activity, I do about a 30 minute walk almost everday with a little weight training.

Do I get it right? You 're eating about 1000-1500 calories, and still gaining weight?

That's odd. Maybe you calculate your calories wrong.

What kind of liquid are you drinking? If it;s just plain old water, it won't be deposited as fat.

Yeah i eat the minimum ur supposed to in a day and i do drink a lot of water. 1 week is almost done and ive gained 2 pounds instead of losing.

Ok i read that the reason im not losing pounds is that im eating too less than what my body needs so it goes into defense mode to try to keep it self together. Ill try eating a little bit more and see if it changes.

I've been having the same problem here. This whole week I've been around 272. I can't say I've gained weight like you have but I haven't been losing. I've been excercising (haven't been before) and eating a lot less than I usually eat. (I usually eat way too much.) I still haven't broken into the 260's during my regular weigh-time and I don't know what's going on.

The same thing's been happening to me. with exercise, i'm running about 1200-1300 cal deficit every day. i went to the gym 5 times last week, which consisted of 3 days full body strength training and 5 days of cardio, mixed between interval and harder, for at least 40 minutes.

i've been eating up to 1700 cal/day (I upped it because with the exercise it was feeling a little low), and I gained 2 pounds!! This is SO frustrating! I feel like the answer is right in front of me and I can't see it....

ahhh a plateu :) havent had one of these yet... when tom was stuck in his, if im not mistaken i think steve had him zig zag calories... alternating between slightly above maitnenance and defecit.

Its impossible to gain weight eating 1500 cals a day, no ones metabolism is that low.
Do you have a body fat calculator? Just scales alone is a bad way of monitoring your progress. Some things which could cause weight gain/no loss are:

1. Water retention
2. Gaining muscle and losing fat at the same time
3. Mis-counting calories
4. Subconsciously eating more food with more exercise. You feel you have earned yourself some calories because of the exercise you did on that day, so you eat more food as a treat.
5. Metabolism has decreased to the point where fat loss halts completely, due to a very drastic defecit in calories.

Hey,

I agree with EazyE, it could be water retention which is not necessarily a bad thing and can be a result of many different factors. You could be gaining muscle which is a good thing, but if you're really eating 1500-2000 calories less than you need I doubt you've gained muscle. It is very likely you've miscalculated somewhere.

How long have you been gaining weight? If it's just a week then I wouldn't worry too much, give it a couple more before making significant changes. If you're eating less and exercising more the chances of you NOT losing fat are very slim! ;)

Warmest,

Joseph Coles

I agree with Joseph. Some muscle gain is a possibility for the noob in the gym. However, aside from that, you can't create something out of nothing. The food you eat contains calories which are energy. The tissues of the body are merely stores of energy as well, in various forms. If you are eating in an energy deficit, there is no possible way to add tissue to the body.

So many people give up because they don't see results in one or two weeks. Just keep up what you're doing and give it time..

Actually now im losing weight, it might have been water retention or a little plateau stage, but its going down now.:D
