Ugh!!! Help!!!

Ok...I have been totally blessed with a whole lot of wonderful friends. This is a wonderful thing. We (hubby, kids, & I) are always getting together with this or that friend or group of friends. Sometimes at our house, other times at others. We have "party type" meals anywhere from 1 - 3 times every week. This puts me in a really bad position with calorie counting. I do so incredibly well with calorie counting when I am on my own, but when it comes to meals with others, I am about guaranteed to go over my cals for the day. :( For example, we were at a friends house the other day and were served a VERY high cal meal. I only ate my serving (no seconds) but I can bet you anything the cals were high even though I had saved as many cals as I possibly could for the evening. I find that usually, foods that people make for company are REALLY high in cals.

Here is my situation: I refuse to tell people they have to make low-cal foods for me when I come over, I refuse to stop going to friends' houses and having them to my house, and I refuse to snub a food that a friend has made for us as company. So...I am in a pickle on this one. I have been much more cautious about how much I eat when with friends since I have been cal counting. I don't get seconds, but I do eat what they serve me. From last Friday's weigh-in to this coming Friday's weigh-in, I will have been with friends for 4 meals. Even though I have been perfect with my cal counting while not at these get-togethers, I am still afraid I will not loose any weight this week just because of all the outings.

UGH! What to do...what to do????!!!!!

hi peb, may be u should carry ur own meals when u go to ur frend's houses, am sure they will understand.

I totally understand bep. My relatives love to feed me and are insulted if I don't clean my plate. Then if I do, they insist I'm starving and heap on more - no win! I say honesty is the best policy on this one. Most people have been on a diet at some stage or known people who are watching what they eat, so I'm sure if you explained that you have to restrict your calories by eating only a bit of what they serve you, they would understand. Maybe they might even cook something low cal especially for you! Don't let it put you off social occasions or your weight loss priorities though. Cheers.;)
