Tyler's Diary

New member
Well I have already somewhat begun my process before I found this website and now that I have I figured why the heck not make a diary here, yall seem like good peoples! Anyways to make it a little more simple I am just gonig to copy and paste the questions from the sticky into here.

Current Status:
Age - 24
Height - 6'3
Weight - 370? (I'm so big I can't find a scale that will weigh me, so I am going on what I saw last time i was weighed, which was 370lbs.)

-- How much weight do you want to lose?
70lbs, I want to be 220lbs but lets start small.
-- What is the timeframe for reaching your target weight?
I don't have a time frame and I don't want one. If I work hard at it every single day I won't need a time frame. Hard work is going to win me this battle.
-- How do you want to accomplish your goal (what methods do you want to use)? I will be watching my cal. intake and putting myself on a 1800-2000k Cal. intake a day diet(I'm not sure if thats to high or not enough. What do yall think? That means counting everything that goes into my mouth. I will be doing 100% carido. Walking/jogging/running on my treadmill at home for atleast 1hour a day. I will also be doing boxing on my heavy bag at home as well. Thats where a small amount of working my muscles out will come from.
-- Who or what can support you in reaching your goal? I have talked about doing this so many times before I don't think my family believes me anymore heh. I also don't have any friends where I live anymore(moved back to my home town a year ago). So I guess I got myself for motivation. But sometimes you just gotta go it alone and I'm ok with that.
-- How realistic is your goal?
I think it is very realistic, granted my jobs keeps me out of town at times, if i count cals. and workout every day like I said I will, nothing should stop me from losing weight everyday!
-- When will you start?
Tonight is when I start. And I will do my absolute best to update every single day!

lol My family didn't believe me either, but they sure do now. I think once you get into that mental place of change, there's really no stopping it. I will say that exercise is crucial to success, even if you start slowly.

Anyway, you sound like you're off to a great start. I look forward to watching your progress. Oh and welcome to the forums! :)

Thank you very much ymcachick! I know they support me of course but I'm not sure if they think Im going to stick with it. But I will :) I would like to actually be 24 lol. Its kinda depressing seeing as how if i lose 70 lbs im still 300 but I suppose even 70 lbs is nothing to frown apawn hehe.

I also cooked dinner tonight and only had one helping! I also walked/jogged on the treadmill for 20minutes. I was forced to stop because I was literality slipping off the tread because it was to wet from my sweat(gross I know but the truth haha).

Day 2

Well it seems that everyone really keeps track of their diary, mine has already been pushed to page 3 haha. Anyways here is the skinny for today.

Breakfast I had well ya...I was rushed and I grabbed a hand full of honey nut cheerios and 2 gulps of milk haha. Prolly not that best breakfast but its better than nothing at all I suppose.

For lunch I was going to have left over from dinner last night (leanbeef, noddles w/ roasted garlic tomatoes) but when i sat down to eat, the plate slipped and fell right on my lap! So by then I was just like screw it, so i went to Chick-Fil-A and got a 12 pack of nuggetS (400 cals.) and called it good!

I just had a snack (Bowl of ceral). Usually my snack is like a meal haha and fast food or chips. So this is a step up!

Dinner will probably be a turkey sandwich with 2 whole wheat pieces of bread and 1 slice of FF cheese.

I am also on my way to my doctors office to use their scale to find my starting weight. This will be the only scale I use until i reach my goal and there after and I will be weighing in every month or 2 months. Haven't decided yet.

As far as fluids go I havent had a coke in 3 days :) and today I drank about a gallon of water. To much? I dunno, I'm just thirsty as hell. Ill post my real starting weight when I return!

Well officially my starting weight is 370 lbs. Kinda depressing but hey gotta start somewhere right? I might post some before pics soon. Bye yall

Don't get too down on your starting weight, last September I started out at 377 and as of today I'm 234. :)

Speaking of numbers, I'm so envious of your age. I wish I had the insight and determination that I do now back then. Granted I'm only 33 and they say the 30s are the new 20s (yeah humor me on that one!), but you're right to be doing it now because at 24, you need to live like a 24 year old lives!

If you're not doing it already, I'd start tracking your caloric intake. I'd also take the time to make breakfast your most important meal. Pack it full of protein and fiber.

Anyway, hang in there. I cant wait to see your numbers drop!

Ya Im lucky to still be young but hell 33 is still young too! I am trying as best I can to keep track of my Cal. Intake and i have been aiming for about 2000 a day. I have begun to make better choices in food but I still cook stuff that isnt great but better than fast food haha. Like 90/10 beef with noodles and some roasted garlic tomatoes. And instead of eating it all haha I eat one helping.

I also walked/jogged my first mile! My goal right now is to get 1 mile a day. I hope thats enough to lose weight =/

Hi Tyler nice to see you on here!

I keep getting reamed at for not having enough calories each day. My goal is 1900-2200 per day and i'm 5'8 @ 223 right now. From what people have told me and your height and weight you are way under with a goal of 2000.

Maybe read these two threads:
http://weight-loss.fitness.com/advanced-weight-loss/31575-jump-starting.html

http://weight-loss.fitness.com/topic/9468-starvation-calories-adaptations.html

Good luck with everything and keep us updated!!

Thanks PEC! I read them both and learned alot. I honestly just read a few topics and came up with 2000. But my question is...if my intake for my size is say 3500 how will I know if I am using 3600-4000cals a day lol. Hell it took me 30mins to do my first mile and it said I only lost like 190 cals. Seems like theres a wall there.

From what i read (and maybe you should find Kara or Steve or someone else can answer this better) don't worry too much about how many calories you are burning just stay between your goal amount and start exercising. I think starting at a mile a day is great. then after 4-6week if you don't see loss then lower your calories a little 10%. (pretty sure i'm repeating a lot of what i've seen Kara write)

Again my problem is getting quality calories instead of simple carbs and empty calories. so i'm not much help on that part.

Ya I might start a topic and ask my questions and see if I can get kara or steve to post with some answers. I assumed that I could eat sandwiches (whole wheat/turkey), high fiber ceral and lean meats and be good. Counting Cals. is hard enough, watching complex carbs, good and bad fats, protien, etc. is alrdy making me very overwhelmed lol.

Well today was just like any other normal day, work is slow right now so i usually get off at like 1 or so. Had a small breakfast, good lunch and had a hamburger for dinner. Ima go with about 1800 cals for the day maybe more. Far cry from the prolly 5000 I was getting lol.

Also, how in the hell do yall handle the hunger....cuz im like ALWAYS hungry lol.

Bout to do my mile jog in about 20mins, gotta let the food settle a little hehe.

Day 3 Workout! Last time I ran a mile in 30 mins flat. Today I did it in 27 Minutes!!! Shaved off 3 mins!

Day 4

Breakfast was small again, but now I got eggs and i just hard boiled 12 tonight so tomorrows breakfast will be eggs and a apple :)

Also for snacks I got Sugar Free Jello just one lil small serving, peanuts, etc.

Lunch was a subway Turkey on wheat w/ american and pickles (6inch). It was really good!

Snack was a jello and a lil peanut butter on a slice of 7grain wheat bread.

Dinner is undecided.

Workout for tongiht will be cardio again! Going for 1.2 miles this time. Everytime I step up to workout I wanna progress even if its just a tiny bit, better to progress than to stay the same!

Day 5!

I feel great. I legs and calves are very soreeee! But I have been doing a mile a day so after tonight that will be 5 miles in 5 days! Crazy to think about. I am also finding myself wanting to use the scale. I figured I wouldn't care but I feel so much better I want to change the ticker even ifs it nothing or just 1lb. I think I'll give it a full week before I try hehe. I have no exceptions though I understand I may just lose 2 lbs. But when your as big as I am it'll prolly be more.

Ok down to the good stuff

Breakfast blah blah, I am not hungry when I wake up! Im in work mode. I tryed to eat something atleast but its never enough food Im sure of that. I had an egg this morning thats it.

Lunch was on the go. Went to Chick-fil-a and got 12pack of nuggets(took of the breading) and a Chargrilled Chicken Sandwich. Both were very good.

Bout to do a little boxing I think. Then after this Ima eat some peaches for a snack.

Dinner will prolly be left over sandwich from yesterdays footlong turkeyon wheat.

Then run a mile and drink a protein shake. Then shower and bed. Its the weekend yay!

heya,
i think your definitely off to a great start! i saw you have quite a few questions in terms of nutrition and wanted to ask if you got a chance to read the 'stickies' yet? they're packed with really useful info in terms of what good stuff you need to be getting into your body daily. in terms of how many calories you need to be eating i used the womens version of this calculator i think it's a really good site since it tells you how many cals you need to be eating daily to loose weight and specifies how many more cals you need to eat depending on how much you exercise per day. it also tells you the recommended grams of carbs/proteins/fats you need to eat per day. now, for counting cals i don't know if your already using a tool, there's many out there but i'm currently using fitday.com it basically tracks your daily calories so all you need to do on a daily basis is put in each meal you've eaten and quanityt and it has a large database of foods where it'll calculate the cals for you. it also gives you the percentage...because there's an ideal percentage of carbs/proteins/fats you need to get per day...the percentage is about 40%carbs/30%protein/30%fats...but that's a very very rough guess so please get that confirmed in the nutrition section or in the stickies, the reason i bring that up is because i guess we've all been brought up to believe that fats are bad and that we should all be eating low/no fat, however studies show otherwise so we should be making sure we get GOOD fats in daily from fish, nuts, olive oil, avocadoes etc HOWEVER for meat protein make sure they're lean because animal fats aren't healthy (again please confirm the % in the stickies or with one of the experts). i've only recently in the past couple of weeks also increased my healthy fats intake to 25% -30% ish and my weightloss has kept on so i don't doubt it anymore. ....i'm horrible at explaining so i hope you understood that last part...lol!

in my case, i'm 317pounds and for me my daily caloric intake calculation came to about 2200cals per day so i try as much to eat that but try to get to at least 2000. in my case i've been eating healthy for a while but wasn't counting calories, i just used to eat enough and only started counting cals with fitday last week. now in my case i found out i was averaging about 1500-1600cals which for me is not particularly great, so when i found out i needed to be eating 2200 cals a day thats when i upped my calorie intake...i had a few days of weight increase which was really depressing but it has stabilized now. i'm glad i increased my cal intake because it will be much better for my weight loss in the long run. it means that if for any reason if at some point in the future i hit a plateau where i'm not loosing any weight for a long period of time, it'll mean that i can be able to reduce my cal intake slightly and in a healthy way. otherwise if you start out by eating low cal, if you hit a plateau in the future there's no room for adjusting your cals lower without pretty much starving yourself.

okay, i'm pretty horrible at explaining stuff so i hope all the above is comprehensible...lol!

i guess it's just coz i totally understand where your coming from and can identify with your situation. i hit rock bottom early jan of this year and decided enough was enough. i estimate my weight at that time to have been around 370pounds but will never know since i never weighed myself. i started health eating in feb and exercising in march. at the end of march i bought a weighing scale and i was about 350pounds and now down to 317...so close to 35pounds. i still have a looong way to go but i have to say i have no regrets whatsoever about starting my lifestyle change because i feel so much healthier and happier now.

all the best to you xoxo:cheers2:

Thanks for the advice and kind words cherry! I just went on that site and it said that if I did 30 mins of exercise a day at 3400cal a day I would reach my goal weight. So ima do 60mins. at 3200. Even though 3200 seems like a shit load when trying to lose weight lol. Perhaps my mind still thinks eat less lose more. When the case is eat a tiny bit less exercise more and lose weight...get stuck eat a lil bit less than before keep exercising and lose weight. Im so used to get 4k+ cals. a day on fast food. I hope I can get over 3k with good healthy foods haha. Lucky for me, I don't care how much I weight. I hold my weight very very well. Once I start to combine strength training /a lil carido I think once I get to 250-230 I will look very good. I don't want to be skinny, and I don't want to be under 200lbs lol. Pretty add muscle while losing fat. Figure if I get enough protein and eat right I can do just that.

heya, no probs. i think starting at 3200 sounds good. the good thing with starting at that figure is that if you ever hit a plateau then you can healthily adjust your cal intake to slightly lower. it's one of those things i wish i'd done from the very start which is why as soon as i found out i adjusted mine....so lucky for you your aware of it at the start so you won't have to go through a period where your adding weight like i did.

i totally know what you mean about not knowing how to increase the intake to that high especially when eatng health. it was hard for me the first few days to up my intake but basically now i'm eating bigger portions of everything (healthy stuff of course) so more carbs/protein/fats and things like nuts and seeds are quite calorie dense and good for you too so those help...and of course using fitday to track my calories makes it all the more easier since it tells me how many i've eaten so far and what percentage of each food group i've eaten. i'd suggest digging through the questions people have asked on nutrition and preferably read kara's responses on nutrition and to know the %....and for exercise steve's responses. it's not that people don't know what they're saying it's just that after a while you get to realise that not everyone knows what they're talking about (which is why i always have to state i'm no expert and mostly give advice from personal experience or from bits and pieces i've learned from the forum like links etc)....which brings me back to the stickies which will arm you with nutritional knowledge so that you can know who knows what they're talking about and who doesn't.

wow, glad to hear you hold your weight well :) i did for a long time when i was younger despite being heavy but the last 10yrs or so it's just all gone out of control which is why i decided to do something about it. jeez i turn 29 this month and have vowed that by the time i turn 30 i'll be a totally new me. lucky for you your starting at a younger age!

glad to see your making great progress. all the best xoxo

PS: i'm so sorry to ramble on and on, i just can't seem to stop myself...lol!

Day 6!

Well day 6 was blah. Woke up at like 8 and didnt eat breakfast! (I know!) and helped my dad with my grandmothers storage. Needless to say I was tired after that hehe. Then I ate some lunch I believe I had a sandwich w/ a few chips. Snack was some jello and a cup of fresh peaches(SO GOOD). Dinner was my cheat meal. Burger/fries from chillis. Was wonderful! But felt a lil guilty after hehe. I also took a break from carido, my legs are sore and I needed to let them rest for a full day. hoprfully that was a good idea.

Day 7!

Woke up late again (I love weekends), no breakfast and just ate lunch.

Lunch - 7grain wheat bread(2), FF Cheese, and 4 slices of turkey

Snack at 3pm will be - (2)7grain wheat w/ peanut butter and a tall glass of milk

Dinner - Gulosh with ff cheese, organic roasted garlic tomaotes sauce, 90/10 ground beef, and yes some finely cut spinach

Workout 30mins with weights prolly arms and legs. then walk/jog for a mile.

After carido I will have 30grams of protein in the form of a shake.

I was gunna wait and weight myself at the end of this month but I kinda wanna see my progress this week. I will let yall know what goes down tomorrow

Well I just got weighed in today. And...DRUMROLL PLEASE! I gained 8 pounds!! (what!?!?!?), Yes, I went from 370 --> 378. How this is possible with what I did all week is beyond me. My pants are very loose and I feel better. yet I gained 8 pounds. I didn't eat before I weighed and I wore the same clothes and used the same scale. But I still gained...I have no idea what to think and I am at a lose for words. *shakes head*
