Trying to just look better

Ok here is the deal I'm 5'10" and about 180 lbs but believe me most of it isn't muscle. It's not really that bad though atleast in my opinion. I can pinch a little more than an inch on my stomach. I want to get rid of that and cut up the rest.

I currently play basketball 2-4 times a week playing for about 1-2 hours but that isn't always a straight 1-2 hours. If you lose you sit so no work being done between games besides shooting around a bit. I try to lift atleast 2 times a week doing atleast a half hour cardio before then back/bi's or chest/tri's.

I'm wondering what type of diet would be most conducive to cutting up? I was thinking chicken and rice being the main meal. Not really trying to gain a lot of bulk. Also don't really want to do any supplements. I could probably handle some whey protein but do I really need that to cut up?

Any tips on the diet or workout would be much appreciated. In the I'm trying to get the Brad Pitt look in Fight Club. :D

you'll hear a lot of BS about which diets are best...people dont give conventional wisodm enough credit. its my belief that the best diet is just one with common sense: eat lean meats, lots of vegetables, and whole wheats. consume sugars, fats and alcohol only in moderation. especially stay away from consuming lots of sugars in one sitting. eat what you mother would tell you to eat.
