trying to gain muscle weight

hey,
i have been trying to gain weight since about october. im 16 and i started workin out 5 times a week with the same excercises those 5 days and runnung those days too. about a month ago i started to work out every other day and run about 3.5 miles. about a week ago i really started reading up on it and now i work out 3 days a week, working 2 major muscles each time i work out. i eat a lot, like around 150g of protein and 3,000 calories a day. i started out at about 125-130. im now about 135-140, but i dont really look much different at all, just a little more cut. i want to get to about 170- 180. can someone tell me if i just need to keep doing what im doing or try something different.

Considering you didn't really start doing it the right way until about a week ago, I'd say you just need a little patience.

If you're bulking up get at least 4000kcal and 1g protein for every lb of bodyweight each day. You might want to cut the cardio and stick with compound lifts. Whole body routines are great for strength/mass but a good 3 day split is legs/push/pull. With all the testosterone from being a teenager you ahould pile the muscle on if you eat and train properly.

thanx abear for that site.... that was a good one and had everything i needed. but i got another question... do u think me running keeps me from getting bigger or does it even matter???

Too much cardio can inhibit muscle growth. So yes running could be holding you back a bit. I would reduce the number of days you run from 5 to 2-3.

I definitely agree. Cardio isn't so important unless you're looking to lose fat.

At least cut the duration down. 3.5 miles is too much for weight gain. Cut your runs down to 30 mins at a higher intensity or switch to H.I.I.T.

you'll just have to find what you can handle. HIIT can be too much for some with fast metabolisms because it boosts your metabolism for hours afterwards. :)

high intensity interval training

theres a new part of the board dedicated to that very topic. the ribbon was cut to open it a few days ago :)

when you onlyt work out 2 different major muscles three times a week(mon.-biceps/ chest....tues.- shoulders/legs...... fri.- back/triceps/stomach) doesnt that whole week give it too much rest, because usually your muscles only need a day or tow to rest, but im giving it a week. so is that what i should be doing???
