Trops Diary

I'm really against any laws prohibiting when you can purchase alcohol. I was in Puerto Rico once when a hurricane was about to hit. They issued something called blue laws which meant that there is no alcohol sales. Luckily we stocked up before the blue laws went int effect. Good thing too because they didn't retract them for a few days.

That's funny guys, to me the concept of not having it sold in certain stores seems odd. In Ontario we have "The LCBO" which is where you buy ANY kind of wine, liquor, party drinks, champagne, stuff from ALL OVER the world, it's awesome. We also have "The Beer Store" which is just for every kind of beer available. Other than that you can't buy liquor anywhere (except at restaurants/bars). They have pretty reasonable hours, but then again I've never wanted to buy liquor at 7am ;)

When you want to buy liquor at 7 am you probably NEED to have it. Here the liquor laws varies from state to state.

I learned while I was in Kansas that the only place you can buy liquor is in a liquor store. And that's all you can buy there. I think you could buy beer in a grocery store (if I remember correctly), but no liquor.

Ironically purchasing liquor is one of the more lax laws in CA.

Hey Trops - sounds like you are doing good - gains are always a good thing - i am working on getting back to a real good wt routine where i can start to see that...i was really scattered for a while.

hope you're doing good :)

Yeah Trops, nice going on the bench amigo. I feel a little humble now...

Naw, compared to where I was... its all good.

Here in Taxachusetts (amongst other names) they followed the blue laws for Sundays for a long time, I think they are still in effect for some areas, its screwed up. If you live near NH you can get booze on a sunday because they changed the laws so that they wouldn't lose biz across the border to NH. How screwy is that?

Follow the DOLLAR!!

Yeah, we still have no OH on Sundays before noon. It really makes no sense to me. I figure that it's so that all the alkies have to go to church for the wine.

Turkey Day plans are, I'm working the midnight shift, so I'll get home and catch some sleep right away. Then to my Mom's for some pre dinner gathering, then to my Mother in Law's step son's house for dinner (I would REALLY rather skip this) then back to my mom's for desert. From there I head to work for another midnight shift. :( It will probably be around 4 hours spent in the car going back and forth.

When I was 16, I hung out with my punker girl friend Rebecca. We knew this 30 year old neighbor of ours, a tweaker names Steve and he was a Virgo. He also was a little bit not-right in the head, but he was a good business associate because he'd dumpster dive, and find hidden treasure. I remember he once found an uncracked handle of Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum (handle = half gallon) and sold it to us for $7.00. Why seven? I don't remember, I think that's all we had at the time. One of my favorite California liquor purchasing experiences. Another time he found 5 12-packs of beer, Lone Star and Lone Star Light. I had never heard of such a thing, and we bought each 12-pack for $3. We spent a lot of time drinking that Lone Star and bitching about how awful it tastes. I think nowadays I'd like to say I would never drink it, but I probably would because it would be funny, and I'd even take a picture of it for shits and giggles. And nostalgia. Well, actually, 10 years later life is MUCH better......

Today was a pretty good day food wise. It's just about dinner time and I don't know what I'll have. Food was a cup of coffee and a double serving of cereal. Lunch was a cup of lentil soup. Hmm. That's it for the day so far. That's not all that much, but I'll have something good for dinner. I haven't done any formal exercise, but I got a delivery of wood and spent the afternoon stacking it. I figure that just walking from where it was dumped to where I stacked it was something like 6000 meters or so. Half of that is carrying wood, so that's got to be worth something.

Tonight I start the midnight shift, which I've begun to really hate since I started this life change. I really feel the change in my energy levels. Also, with the kids off from school and the holiday and all, I get even less sleep. Ugh.

Stacking wood is DEFINATELY a good workout!

Is it on night shift that you have to deal with the A__ hole who was giving you shit a few weeks back?

Regardless, have a great Thanksgiving.

Nah, the asshole is just a guy on a different shift. I'll only see him at turnovers and such. That's pretty much settled down, too, so it's not an issue.

On a different note, friends of ours are going to be staying with us over the holidays. It's a bittersweet visit, though. One of the guy's cousin just died from a stroke at age 30, so he's down for the funeral and holiday. They are ariving today, but I don't know how long they will be staying. The other guy is a chef and always a pleasure to cook with (unlike some). He's a real chef, too. Not just a guy who cooks. He was the executive chef for the presidential debate when they held it on Long Island last month. Pretty cool. I'm sure he'll have some stories about that. I hope they stay the weekend.
