Trops Diary

It just seems like such a waste of time. There are ten things that I would so much prefer to do.

hahaha....I know what you mean.....I love, actually adore, staying up and doing everything possible throughout the day....REST is important, yet I don't like doing it too often unless I'm drained.....the only real times, I ever get around 8 hours of sleep is when they make us in a challenge, yet I don't like waking up....what's up with that....!!! LOL!!!

......I just had a hearty spoonful of PEANUT BUTTER on a LOW SODIUM rice cake...hmmmm!

I've lurked a couple of times, but I don't think I've posted here yet. Trops, your doing a terrific job on lifestyle change in general. Healthy choices with the food, exercise, family, it is all a good thing.

Keep it up, and thanks for stopping by my journal!

So, this morning I got on the scale and it read 206.4. A full two pounds since yesterday. Is it true, readjusting after being too high over the weekend? Or just a false low? Guess I'll find out tomorrow. I'm sure that it will be up a bit tomorrow, but hopefully not too much.

Today I think I might take a break from running or jumping rope. My legs are starting to get that feeling of being over taxed, so I'd better let them adjust. Tomorrow I'll abuse them some more. I'd like to go to the gym, but I donated blood today, and even though they say you can, I've had problems in the past with the workout being too strenuous. I might just take it easy. Go for a long walk somewhere. (I'll have to find a short pier)

I think it will be extra important to keep food under control today. I had a small bowl of cereal for breakfast, but for lunch I had three pullet eggs, yolk and all. After donating blood I had no salt trail mix, which was just nuts, seeds ad raisins, but it still had a bunch of fat. I was very proud of myself turning down doughnuts and cookies after the donation. I did have a big handful of jellybeans on the way in, just because I hadn't really eaten anything and didn't want to be the one who faints. :svengo:

Nice work my man! I think the 2lbs is real, in my opinion the lowest weight is real... the highest weight is fluctuation :D.

Congrats on the blood donation! More people should do that.

Whats a pullet egg?

It's a small chicken egg. Some of my hens are just starting to lay, so I'll eat those eggs. What the nutritional value is I have no idea, but three small eggs is about the same as two from the older hens.

I try to donate a bunch. I've been doing platelet donations, but that's a big difference from regular. You have a needle in each arm, one out and one in. You can't move your arms for about an hour and a half, even to scratch your nose. It's so helpful to cancer patients. Not exactly sure how, but it is. I have to schedule another donation, but I was able and they had a blood drive at work, so I did it here.

I have similiar issues when I donate. I mean I want to watch what I eat, but I have to eat and they always offer high sugar snacks after donation. I get real light headed when donating, but have found if I sip a regular Coke (not diet) I do fine. But man, do I have those empty calories, but in the end it's worth it when you know what you are doing will help save lives.

Just one of the many things that made my Dad a great man- he was a religious blood donor. He never made a big deal of it, he would just go every couple of months . . . because it was the right thing to do. As soon as I was old enough in high school I gave my first pint. I am not as religious with my donation schedule as my Dad was, but I do give at least 1-2 times a year.

Kudos to you too, Trops!

Tonight I was planning on not really doing anything exercise wise. I had the kids do their homework while I made dinner. Pasta with meatball sauce and sauteed zucchini. I didn't have any even though I was very hungry. Bad planning on my part. I was getting irritable, yes it happens from time to time. My wife asked if I wanted to go to the gym, and I said I was taking tonight off. She asked if I changed my mind yet. Clue taken, I went. When your wife asks you to go to the gym, you go.

I took it easy. It was really to get rid of some stress. I did a good shoulder workout with light weights and very high rep. Then did the same with triceps, followed by a real good (for me) abs. After that I walked on the treadmill for 15 min at max incline. Felt good. I know that I didn't really burn a whole lot of calories, but it's still something.

When I got home there was one turkey meatball and some zucchini and I ate it all down without feeling bad at all.

I was thinking about having a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, but I added up the calories. 120 for each slice of bread, 210 for the peanut butter, and 35 for the jelly. That's just under 500 cal for one sandwich. Fat is 17 for the PB and 2 each slice. Protein is only 15 total. I think I'm skipping this one for a while.

Hey Trops,
I'm always running into you in other people's diaries. I finally decided to come straight to the source. Trolling for fresh forum blood, I guess. LOL. However, it seems like you've recently made a donation to a much worthier cause than myself. Great job.

God save peanut butter and jam sandwiches. I love 'em but not the 500 calories kind of love. I think I am going to break down and have one soon. :(

Looks like the weight loss is going strong. Congratulations!

Hey, lemons, thanks for stopping by. I love me the PB&J, but it's just too much. I was thinking about making it open face and using half the peanut butter, but it still isn't worth it. I'll have to wait till I'm running much more. Then I'll have them every day.

Morning Trops, you should shop around. I eat PB&Js all the time. The whole grain bread I buy is just 50 cals a slice. Naturaly More PB is about 170 cals for 2 tbs but I find you can make a good snack sammy with 1 tb. I also eat sugar free preserves that are just 10 calories per serving but honestly I just decided to cut our artificial sweetners so I have been eating PB and honey sandwiches as well as PB and banana.

The Naturally More is a good product and is pretty widely available.

If you don't mind the Splenda you can have a good PBJ for less than 200 calories.

Thanks, Ed. I've been using Trader Joe's peanutbutter. It's ingredients are peanuts and salt. Also, the jelly is reduced sugar organic TJ's. Bread is Peppridge Farm's 15 grain. It's all good stuff, but just too much.

This morning I weighed in at 204.6. I'm very happy. I went to be really hungry last night, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. I'm going to try to eat a bit more today and get in a good run after work. We'll see how it goes.

The downside to platelet donatations was how cold you get - least e... I used to go to Sloan Kettering every month or so - and the nice nurses to jelp keep us warm would put a rubber glove filled with hot water in my hand to keep it warm - otherwise it turns a lovely shade of blue :)

And why platelets are important are becomes somecancer treatments cause a loss of platelets -especially the treatments they give to leukemia patients. platelets help control blood clotting. When platelet levels fall too low, patients are given a transfusion of platelets to replenish their supply and prevent hemoragges

and platelets are (to the best of my understanding) universal - so they can be given to anyone... not just to your specific blood type.

I love my PB&J, too. Mine are about 300 calories; 0.5 oz natural peanut butter, thick slice bread and 1.5 oz of jam. For as awesome as that sandwich is, it's well worth the 300 calories. I have at least one/day.
