trigger foods

Although some people say anything is good in moderation, does anyone have any trigger foods that they just will not eat because they fear they cant control themselves?

I know i have learned to control portion sizes for many things but one food i refuse to eat and will never eat again in Chinese Food. Sure I go to a chinese food place and get steamed chicken and veggies with no sauce but i can never get a combination plate or go to a buffet. It just scares me. I used to eat chinese 5-6 times a month.

Anyone else?

Chocolate. I still can't have just one piece, I need to have it all. So I stay away from it.

Other than that, I think I'm starting to get the hang of portion control....even though I over-ate on Lasagne last night. It's one of my weak points, like the Chinese is for you. BUT - I know how to make it myself now, so I will just make smaller portions from now on. If it's not there, I can't eat it.

But it can still be very difficult sometimes....:(

Oddly enough....Cool Whip. Can't have the stuff in the fridge...I just HAVE to eat it. And mozzarella cheese sticks. I really want some but haven't had any since before July 31, 2007. That's one of my "NO! Absolutely NOT!" foods. And cheesecake...gotta stay away from that, too.

Fast food is usually a trigger for me, unless I deliberately choose something healthy like a fruit cup or a bowl of soup.

But if I "treat" myself with chicken nuggets or a burger and fries, I usually binge.

I have a hard time with Chinese too - did good this last time, but usually when we eat Chinese food we get the works: soup, won tons, chicken wings, rice, noodles, etc...

Double stuff oreo cookies are not even allowed in my house, because they talk me into eating the whole package.

Little Debbie peanut butter bars (the chocolate covered wafers with peanut butter inside). If I eat one then I will eat 3.

Sometimes sugar. It is strange, but if I have Ice Tea that my husband put sugar in then I get the urge to eat sugar by the spoonfuls. I have not done that for a long long while but it can happen if I am not careful.

That is about it.

Bah there is nothing that triggers me beyond control. But I get cravings all the time. ^^; be it for chocolate, chinese roast pork, ice cream, fries, etc... I go for a portion but I never binge. Dunno, it's weird.

Potato chips. I can eat anything in moderation, but if you offer me potato chips I will eat them until they're gone - whether it's a small serving or a whole bag. I simply don't buy them any more. If I do get them, it's at some place like Subway where I can buy a small single serving bag and eat just that.

off the top of my head:

pizza
sun chips
pasta
sushi
'chinese' food

I still eat them on occasion, but when I do, I know it is going to be a battle of willpower. I don't always win... :cuss:

Definetly chinese food. I just hit up a buffet last weekend and lets just say I was at all even close to being good. I just can't say no to seconds and even 3rds. I think thats my only big weakness. I can pretty much say pass to most things but yea that chinese food gets me everytime. Its just so delicous.

any sweets candy, ice cream, cookies

If I ever eat any of them I start with a large cup of water and finish with

a even bigger one, because I know if I am really full I won't keep eating

same here do loveeeeeeeeee my choccie!!!

but like i said somewhere on here y/day found its cheese & bread finding harder to cut down on...

as for chocolate...have you tried the choc options drinks (very low cal) or my fave the light chocolate horlicks?? these are about twice the cals of the options but they have lots of B vits in too & are more filling so i tend to have those than the options ones. i make a point of having my choccie horlicks in a big fancy cup with a saucer (you know the type you can put soup in too) & then i sit down & relax with it...is it better than say...a bar of yorkie choc & raisin/a bounty/a snickers/a galaxy ripple or a bag of revels???? NO!!!! but it won't add to the extra choc curves i'm already trying to get rid of either!!! :Angel_anim:

btw i have just named all my fave choc bars above....i'm obviously a masochist at heart!!! but RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW i can honestly say i won't be buying or eating any tonight...& i'm quite certain not tomorrow either...as with any addiction (i use chocolate favoured body lotion FGS!!!/light choccie fragranced candles & have been known to use chocolate flavoured coffee beans!!!??) you just have to take it ONE DAY AT A TIME baby!!!! :)

ps only a fellow chocoholic could understand this...but i often have to literally talk myself out of it...i say things to myself like...

back away from the cookie tin/cupboard/fridge missy!!!!

its no big deal...you already know what it tastes like...you'll eat it & think yum!! then a little while later you'll think...i could have resisted that

been there....done it...got the extra pounds to prove it...

chocolate does not control me!!!
chocolate does not control me!!!
chocolate does not control me!!! etc etc...

sounding completely doolally in the process of course!!! but it helps...honestly it does!!!

plus if you're totally craving but really don't want to cave...put some music on & quickly dance about...but you have to do it like a total loon (think phoebe running through the park in friends!! LOL) with utter abandon not giving a stuff about what you look like or what others think...just throw your arms in the air/twirl about & laugh about how daft it is that such an significant little thing as a bar of chocolate can hold such sway over us!!!

Nope. Even if I "can't control myself" with something, I'll still get it every so often and enjoy over eating, I just make it a point not to do it often. If I'm going to fork out money for Chinese food, I'm going to eat whatever I want, I just won't go back to eating like that for awhile (I usually have no desire to (or the money)).

I don't care, honestly. One day in the scheme of life isn't going to do me in. It's not like I'm in any particular rush to lose weight.

I probably have too many list.

In this process, I've discovered that I really have this awful desire not to waste food, so I will over-eat in order not to "waste" it. It's terrible.

If I give it away, it's fine. It's just the act of throwing in the trashcan that really makes me cringe. It takes an incredible amount of willpower to do it. I would rather eat it.

So, I just don't have trigger foods around me. I buy things in portion sizes or the smallest sizes possible, so I don't have leftovers.

Taco Bell. I actually started taking a different route to work to avoid it. Actually, all fast food is hard for me not to binge eat. So I try to avoid it all.

more or less same here :) .. dunno, am not in a rush. If I have a craving, i'll go for it but as you said, wont do it everyday!
The weight is BOUND to drop off at some point, and even if instead I build muscle by eating well/working out then that's good too, and even if it is only a couple hundred grams a week.
