Trevor's Journey

Trevor, your description of your life reminds me of myself when I was in the Navy. I was always working or studying. I can hear it in your words just how nice it was to have some time off.

If you want to put on lean muscle, there's a few rules that you have to follow to a T.
1.Eat more protein - it's what that muscle you want is made of
2.Do less cardio-hardcore cardio and bodybuilding do not mix
3.Lift heavier- when you do your sets, shoot do 6 to 10 reps to failure or just about failure (in the future you'll want to change this up sometimes to "shock" your muscles into growth, but this is a good work out for muscle building in general).
4.Track you results- Example:"With 35 lbs. I was able to go all the way to 10 reps and could have kept going. Use more weight next time", or "40 lbs was too much, start with 35 next time"
5.Read up on bodybuilding - Same as I'm doing on this forum. I'm learning what's working for others. I recomend some of the older harcore body builders stuff, before they were as polluted by trying to endorse products.

I'm not a licensed physical trainer, just a person who studied the heck out of bodybuilding and one who made incredible gains by applying what I learned.

It's awesome how much weight you've lost. Your commitment to working out is great too. You can get where you want to be just be applying what you learn about putting muscle on, just like you've learned how to shed a bunch of weight by finding out what had worked for others. Good luck with that and feel free to ask me if you have any questions. I'll only tell you something if I'm really sure of it.

I agree about the scales. I won't be abandoning them completely, I just won't be looking at one too often. I'm going to be driven by looks. I know that if I see changes then my efforts are bearing fruit. And those looks are the main thing I'm after!

Your weight loss is insirational. If you can do it, then I can too!

Don't let the money issue get to you as much. As Kdel said, you might want to slow down and let things go their course. Sometimes we keep holding onto a situation becuase we keep holding on to it (focusing on it)! Let it go and it will (go)! If you ever have the time to read anything other than your studies, I'd reccomend The Power Of Now to help you with that our a number of other dis-eases that our lives are sometimes ailing from.

Anyway, good to see you doing what you're doing. I'll be talking to you some more here.

Thanks so much for the help! I'm just now getting used to not worrying about the number on the scale and i really do appreciate the help! I will update on my progress from lifting and keep updating me on how you are doing. Im thinking about getting the book you recommend so i will let you know. Work and school do kill me but if thats what it takes to live a comfortable life, then i gotta keep on going. Thanks

I had a little saying for myself when I was lifting. It helped me get going when I didn't feel like lifting. I'd say it's "money in the bank". Each time I lifted I was putting money in the muscle bank. Each extra rep I could push out when I felt give out was money in the bank.

Each time you go to class, you are putting money in the bank. Each time you finish studying, you've put money in the bank. When you start to feel down about the required classes, studying or work, just know that you are putting money in the bank.

It takes time and work to build up the bank account, whichever type of account you are trying to build up. But for sure, it will be built up. One deposit at a time!!!

This morning I had 1 poached egg (wife left it for me) and 1 cup of mixed oats, wheat germ, psylium husk and raisons. I wet it down with a splash of carrot juice. Interesting to say the least! This was a variation of a breakfast I studied about in a book called "ripped" by Clarence Bass. He was a big advocate of putting on muscle, not fat. A lot of body builders "bulk up", during off competition season, the try to lose the fat and retain as much of that muscle as possible. His method was tracked by scientist through blood work and body fat measuring. It worked well, so I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to bulk up without adding the fat at the same time.

Im going to have to remember that saying, i like it!

Breakfast sounds good, i may give it a try. Today is my off day in the weight room so im just doing homework and relaxing.

As for the day im at or around 700 calories. I plan to get in about 75 more grams of protein before tonight which shouldn't be too hard. Ill update later. Everyone have a good afternoon

Wow! You guys are talking shop! :grouphug: that’s cool!
I'm proud of you guys. If you just make it your routine it’s not so hard to achieve!
Work out/count cals. and protein, I like that!! You know what I mean.
I juiced for a wile. But it got expensive for me and the family to do it.
But I never felt better, when I was juicing.
Thanks Trevor for asking about me. (Coz this is your diary)
My husband and I decided over the weekend that we are going to be vegetarians. Cut out red meat for the next two weeks, and then cut out chicken and fish after that. We will see how it goes, can't hurt I guess.
I suck and counting Cals. But I do my workout every day before work.
I know that it will get easier after I loose some poundage. :)

Let me know how the vegetarian thing goes, that would be so hard for me to do!!! Dont worry too much about calorie counting if your seeing progress through measurements and weight on the scale. Just eating regular portions and keep working out. If you don't lose for weeks on end, then it is essential to begin counting everything you eat. Btw, with the whole veggie thing your starting, make sure you get some protein in!! Because its your friend!

good morning everyone!

I couldnt sleep last night at all.....so i didnt get much sleep but im surprisingly not tired at the moment. I got class until 6 tonight so today is pretty busy. I will be back on later.

Thanks guys,
I'm on a home made veggie soup kick. I make it very hearty and make it with different veggies every time
(Red potatoe chunks, onion, garlic, carrots, celery, cabbage, broccoli, yellow squash- so we won’t get burnt out on the same old thing over and over) I did make a lintel soup the other day (for protein)
But I am worried about the starch in it (and talk about needing "Beano") :ack2:
Any tips guys on how I could do it better?
I value your opinion
Thanks :) Have a great Day

Yesterday was alright considering i didn't get much sleep. I didn't overeat and it was an off day in the gym. Today i woke up feeling great and i got plenty of sleep last night. I got class in a about an hour and i work this afternoon so im pretty busy. I stand at or around 500 for the day with a nice breakfast, full of fiber!

I will update some more tonight since im already running late to my class.

Everyone have a great day!!!!

Hi Trevor,
I hope you have a good day in class. I'm glad you got some rest.
Can I ask you?.........What was it that changed your way of thinking about food and your weight (when you were heavy and lost all that weight)? How long did it take you to loose the poundage? You went from one end of the spectrum to the other.
Thanks (Booty) LOL :waving:
(can you tell I just love the happy faces)

For the past couple of days i have been really busy at work and school. Today i work at 2 and i just woke up. I'm around 400 calories for the day and my energy is shot. College and partying don't mix well into a diet. I didn't drink but i ate a bit more than expected. Its alright though, one day doesn't kill ya, but continuing this kind of lifestyle is not healthy.

So far for the day i have had:

Fiber One Cereal 320
Nonfat Milk 80
Banana 150
Raisans 100
Double Fiber Bread 100
Turkey 50

Total: 800

I have work from 2-8, not too bad, im just tired and mad at myself for staying up and indulging in a late night snack....

what a day so far...

Well this morning i overslept and was late to work. I guess i like turning my alarm off instead of hitting snooze. Now im on my lunch break and im tired as can be. I got about 4 hours of homework once i get off at 4 and then im probably just going to crash. I will update my food log later tonight. Until then everyone!

Last night was bad. I felt deadly sick and had the worst headache of my life. I decided to lay down and rest and it was very hard to fall asleep. I got up, took some medicine and passed out. Today i feel a bit better, but im not great. I got 4 hours of class and i was planning on working out, but i think i am going to take it easy today. I'm at 350 calories as of now, with Fiber One and a Banana.

i couldnt make it in class today so i came back home and went to bed for a couple hours. Im eating right now and i feel alright, but like earlier im afraid my headache is going to come right back.

Sounds like it's time for a head amputation....

no wait that'd be bad wouldn't it..

no sense in losing your head over this...

Just take it easy til you're feeling better..

any idea what's caused the headache?

I have absolutely no clue. I think it may be sinuses because the pain is right behind my eyeballs and its aching. I took some claritan and im alright atm. But your right, im going to take it easy today, which sucks because i should be exercising...and i missed class and thats no good.
