Trainers rule

Having a trainer is awesome! except that they can break your account. But when I had a trainer I lost 15lbs in 4mts. It was the best I had ever felt. If you have the money you should definitely spend it on a trainer.

true!

I see the benefit of a trainer but I am cheap. :action6:
so I use trainerpack's workouts, totally cheap and made by trainers.

I don't know - it's just seem so expensive. Looks like a luxury to me, not a necessity - in the UK the trainers in my gym are 40quid an hour, say you see them twice a week it ends up costing you 350-400 a month, that's boat loads of money, way outside the realm of affordable for most people.

Also, the ones I've seen so far (when I peak at them while doing my own workout) seem to just act as spotters, and give basic tips you can get online for free.

I'd love to be wrong though - I've considered 'giving it a shot' myself, but I still need some convincing.

Good trainers are not just glorified spotters. Sadly, a lot of trainers are, so it's hard to find the really good ones. The good ones will show you correct form so you don't injure yourself, will tell you about any imbalances that you have and show you how to correct them, etc.
